little g and I have been baiting a couple of sites since August 15th in a no quota zone. We were not sure if there were any bears in the area so we decided not to put out any trail cameras. We were fortunate enough to have the land owner to go out and check the baits. After a week, both baits got hit twice within 3 days. We made our way back up there, put up our tree stands and trail cameras 5 days before the opener. The baits never got hit but we hunted the opener anyways and didn’t see anything. About an hour before dark, we heard two gun shots about a half mile north of us. Needless to say, we left that night feeling a little dejected.
We wanted to hunt over Labor Day weekend but since the bait had still not been hit, we decided against it. Well, I got a call late on Monday from the land owner and both baits got hit again! So we decided to hunt over one of the baits last night (Tues) and check the trail cameras in the process (land owner does not have a computer). We also needed to pick up some more bait as well. We had some grease but it got hard so we boiled it until it was liquid again and spread that around the bait sites. We didn’t see anything last night but we finally found out what was hitting the bait!
How big do you think he is? The logs just to the left of him are 5-6 feet long.
Now we have something to work with again and we need to get him in during daylight hours. Any suggestions?
