Rice and Balsam Lake areas I would worry about. Not even sure what to think about the Ashland area.

You should also add that this will happen during the gun-deer season, go luck on anyone getting back.

Check out my other post for the background of my 2009 bear season story…

Started baiting Tuesday. Put the camera out Wednesday. Got the first pics today (haven’t put bait out since Wed, so this was my first chance to check the camera)… Anyway, got about 70 pics. Had a few nice boars and some sows with cubs already!! Season opens next Wed. I have tomorrow and Monday to bait (or should I leave it tomorrow since I baited today, bait again on Monday, leave it alone on Tue, and then hunt Wed pm??)

Hopefully one of these boars will come in after I get setup in the stand Wednesday.

I especially like the picture of me getting to the baitsite at 4:12 (note the timestamp) and the last pic of the nice boar at 4:11… Woooooohooooo!!!! The direction he is looking is exactly where I was coming from (…exactly where I WAS…) at that instant!!

Ya, sorry about that one… Although that one IS a shooter… Or I should say he IS THE shooter.

Didn’t meant to give you IDO guys the moon.

Only included that shot for the time stamp. Pretty cool missing the bear by only a minute… I hoping to get a few more pics of him returning after I departed yesterday… I’ll check the camera today or tomorrow and find out.

    whitsend:

Others might disagree, but during the last week prior to the hunt, we started baiting every day, only putting a gal. of bait or so in. You don’t want to be feeding them to the point of full, you want them coming back checking to see if you have put some more in…

If you can get a friend set up for opening day, start to bait that time period only. Get the bears into YOUR pattern. Then on the opener, have your partner with, have him/her come in with you and then once you are done baiting, send him/her on his way, just like you have been doing. That one that was looking at you, will be in your arms shortly afterwards!!!

Are you planning on hunting the 9th as a baiter??? I would look your regs over carefully… the dog guys I think start on the 9th, I think you have another week to go on the 16th…

I just reread for third time and if you mean next Weds as the 16th, you’re golden!!!

zone C, by Eau Claire, sort of the southern edge of good bear country. No hunting with dogs allowed here. All bear tags for zone c open the 9th.

    Straight from the DNR website…

Thanks for keeping en eye out for fellow IDO’ers, though… I can see how guys might make that mistake!!

a few more pics. unfortunately, I’m not sure my camera was functioning to full capacity (low batteries maybe??? – it was reading 50% today, and 75% just a day or two ago) I only got 4 pics, and two of them were from me today. The other two were a little too up close and personal. The bait was wiped out, though, which leads me to believe I should have had more pics based on 1 minute pic intervals. You can see two bears in the second photo if you look closely.

Sweeeeet.. If I don’t get one tommorrow, I might have the option of doing some am hunts (vs evening hunts) this weekend. When you do an am hunt, do you walk in under cover of darkness, or do you instead wait til shooting light and stalk you way in to the stand site?
