Question for you guys…..how important is scent control when your putting out bait? It has to be tough in the middle of a dense forest, little breeze, 90 deg. and high humidity, you must have a pretty good odor about you by the end of the day (GMAN )??? I know bears can bolt at the first wiff of a human, but is the smell of fresh Otto’s Bakery too powerful to stop them?

You ARE part of the bait smell. The best scent control for bear is assocaite your scent with food…as long as you are a good shot or can run fast.

The bear will become acustom to your scent, this is actaully the hard part for guides as we go from our scent to a new hunters scent in one day…good thing we get the guide trick handbook with our guiding license.

I go out of my way to include my scent at the bait station. I’ll spray a bit of bug spray on some brush near my stand and even leave a sweaty T-shirt at the bait station. The bears learn quickly to accept the stink in order to eat the goodies.
