I just got my postcard from the DNR that I have been selected for a 2009 Bear Tag in zone C.
I have never hunted bear before and would like to get any advice anyone is willing to offer.

    Thanks,
    Brian

I have a lot of area to hunt right by my house on Glover Rd. Also have friends with property just south of River Falls, Osseo, and Colfax. May even be a possiblity of getting over toward Baraboo.
Guess I’ll just have to put out the trail cameras and bait to see where they are.
    How about you?

Well i have been bear baiting/hunting for 4 years now with 2 sucseful hunts. My advice is to put out baits in pretty good cover so the bears feel comfortable walking to the bait. We also tie a trail timmer on our baits to give us an idea of when the bears are ative around our baits. bear hunting is by far on of my favorite animals to hunt. good luck hope to see a post with a few pics.

I think I am going to take my chances and stay closer to home. I know there are alot less bears around here, but there are enough. And I think that if you get one coming to a bait he will stay. There is no competition here and you cant hunt with dogs either. Let me know if you find a good source for bait.

Nobody in my family got a tag this year. Have yet to hear about anyone in the area getting a tag either. Sometime before the season a tag wil shake loose though I’m sure.

Either way bear season opens on JULY 1st. We are counting the days.

    good luck all,

    Steve

As far as I know, no tags here either. Had a chance for two, but no go. I think I am still going to bait anyway just to get some more pictures and get out in the woods during the summer. Mark Johnson head north to BP Gas Station in Danbury, I got some great bait up there last summer on my way back from Mille Lacs!!! Cookie dough and chocolate!!!

Congrats on drawing a tag,my tip for baiting is to bait twice a day,Am & PM every day for about 2 weeks prior,if you cannot bait twice a day AM baiting is better because you can condition them to come to the bait during daylight hrs.Last year i had them come in at all hours during the day especially in a area with no pressure,i placed some bait when i got to my stand and also when i left if needed,i used a hollowed out log about 2 feet in length stood it on end and put my bait inside and covered it with a large rock,i also laid a 6 foot log near it so you can judge the size of the bear, work the ground around your bait so you can look at the size of their tracks, i wore rubber boots
with cover spray, it doesn’t take a lot of bait it just needs to be there regularly.Hope this helps and good luck it’s a blast & don’t forget to take a camera
