I’m going bear hunting for the first time this year near Ely. If I’m lucky enough to shoot a good bear I am looking for a recommended taxidermist to do a bear rug anywhere between Ely and the twin cities. If anyone has some good Intel on a taxidermist that has fair priceing and quality work please let me know thanks.

Although I’ve never had the opportunity do get a rug done, Danny Beck (320-676-8768) does a very nice job on his mounts and rugs. He is located just north of Isle off of County Road 18.

Can’t help you with anyone in that area but highly recommend Sportsman’s Taxidermy in East Grand Forks MN.

Hope you get lucky and be sure that whoever does the skinning makes the proper and accurate cuts. A symmetrical rug starts with straight cuts in the right places. Very easy to screw it up.

Just don’t be shell shocked by the cost of getting a shoulder mount or rug done. It’s close to triple the price of a shoulder mount of a deer. My boy got one a few years ago and it was close to $1000.00 but really cool experience and great to look at. Good luck on your hunt.

Thanks for the advice guys. I was looking at Two Rivers Taxidermy in Hinckley. Does anyone have any experience with them?

Wings-N-Things on Hwy 65 in Ham Lake does great work.
