I’ve never bear hunted and it’s always been something I’ve wanted to do. I just got notice saying that the application process for the license drawing started.

So I’ll read up on the regs and maybe put in for a license. I’ll have to check permit areas and available state land I suppose, since I don’t know anyone in Bear Zones.

    Any pointers appreciated.

Anyone want my empty seat(s) on pool 4 or 5 (for fishing) in trade for a taking a first timer bear hunting?

I’ve been hunting since I was a kid. Did all kinds when I was younger but mainly deer in recent years, with a small party, on private property. I’m an ethical sportsman.

i’ll assume your hunting minnesota. if this is your first crack at applying, and going to apply in a permit zone i’d say your chance of pulling a permit the first time around is slim to none. if you pay attention to the zone you could buy over the counter if someone doesnt actually pay for there tag.

i’ll be applying in zone #27. now if you do no qouta i believe you can just buy over the counter.

You might want to try and nail down a spot and someone willing to run bait for you first. Pretty tough to hunt bear without a bait site getting hit regularly.

    This. ^^^^.

You need to figure out where you’re going to hunt and then how will you set up and replenish the bait 2-3 times per week before and during season. Otherwise, you’re not really hunting bear, you’re just sitting in the woods.

My hunting farm is in the no quota zone. Public land hunting is very difficult in this area because of intense pressure on both public and private land.

    I may be $&@@‘d?

The idea/expense of spending a 5 day-week up there is do-able but having to be up there for weeks prior to bait will require More time = more $…..

are you hunting alone or with or 2 others??? We bait only on weekends. It’s not ideal but works. Take turns making the trip.

I can’t find anyone else interested in going so I’d be alone. Would love to join a small group of guys and help out, share in the work but as I said….. I’m an experienced deer hunter and just have never been bear hunting. I could use some guidance without the guide fees. Maybe I am overestimating what a guide fee would be? I’m in the lower tax bracket so I’d be lying if I said I could afford the full blown guided hunt. I don’t have to jerk the dog off to feed the cat anymore, our cat died.

I’ve been trying to find any local guys where I live that go north to do the hunt but so far the only ones I have found, are too old and have quit making the trip for bear.

I have an atv & all my own gear. I am a responsible sportsman…. Been hunting for over three decades and I still bag more deer than the younger guys in our party.
