I wouldn’t go ice fishing this weekend. The lake LOST 2″ of over the week. 3 1/16″ of soft ice today. After closer examination the ice appears to be in the early stages of honey combing as well.

Thanks Wade. I was out last weekend on some smaller lakes with 4″ but I was planning on writing this weekend off. Sucks though! What lake is that from?
A small lake (200 acres) near Grand Rapids. The small lakes near Hibbing/Chisholm are the in the same condition.
We just cancelled our LotW ice trip scheduled for next Wed., the 16th. Have been doing this same mid-Dec. trip since 2003 and this is the first time we had to reschedule. There are no weekend openings at our resort thru the end of Jan. in part due to the rescheduling by those who had to cancel. We got a cabin for Jan. 3 arrival. I sure hope we get good ice by then.
