Hope to get out this weekend and check it out not sure if the roads open from Bayport but I know there’s some guys out there driving
Road report-that’s a start!
Fish report would be the next thang.
Friends put 4 Sturg on the ice Monday night. Not sure on the length but they were pretty good size.
Plant is running. Warm water flowing. 14-16″ in stable areas. I have about 10 sturgeon landed this year with a 53″ being the biggest. Most have come out of Anderson point. Base of the break. Throw a dart and you catch them anywhere. Typically move closer to the warm water as it flows. If you’re willing to move spots watch for bait balls on the graph. I’ve always tried to target areas conducive to high production fish areas in general. More than anything time on the water will produce. Extremely boring and non-visual fishing but I can tell you guiding a few friends this year to their PB sturgeon was extremely rewarding. Tight Lines!
thinking about heading out to the “Bayport Basin” this weekend… are the ice roads open from North Hudson and Bayport? Any concerns about driving out in a F150?
Does anyone know if the shad are present at all? Me and a buddy of mine are going out on Saturday and we wanted to use fresh shad as bait for sturgeon.
Anyone been out on the croix in bayport lately? If so has it been pretty good? I’ve been seeing a lot of people out there this year and I’ve been wanting to try it out.
I don’t get out there much; from my experience there’s a <10% of doing well out there for crappie if you go to the community spots. Otherwise it’s 0-2 fish and a “you should have been here last week” kinda day.

This sums up my St Croix Ice fishing over many years. I remember one good outing.
I dont even try there anymore but it’s still appealing.
Not familiar with Croix crappies, but if that is your desired fish, many better options in the Big Marine area. Carnelian, Forest Lake #1, some LakeFinder gems…
Funny that you would say you are not familiar with Croix crappies but you list lakes that are ‘better’. No public lake in that area will have a better average size than the Croix IMO. If you have no experience with any of these waters and just want to catch a few, Forest might be better.
^they must not have been familiar with the Croix, drove out into the area where the warm water discharge of the power plant was going this past weekend. The Sturgeon group on FB was discussing just the day before it happened how that area should get posted as thin ice due to the variable plant schedule and number of people out there.
