Battery Switch

Will be installing a master battery switch for motor/accessories battery on an I/O boat. Have drained battery twice this summer as led’s are out on a couple touch pad switches (bilge pump appears to be culprit – can’t hear the darn thing running under the rear cushions.) May add a backup battery while I’m at it. (and yes, I will be replacing the touch pad if Sea Ray stocks it.)

PERKO and BLUE SEA SYSTEMS seem to be the most prevalent brands; $35 – $200. Anyone have good/bad luck installing either of these brands?

    Thanks

    Pete,
I put one in my Lund for the same reason.

I just went to the auto store and bought a 30 amp switch and mounted it in my dash next to the toggle switches.
Your boat might be different. (?)

Got this on Amazon for $18. The trick to any of these switches is to remember to use them.

I added a master switch for my battery also.
I mounted a small Red LED light in my dash so I know when the switch is
    ON of OFF
    Works great.

When you hook up your switch, there might be a couple things that you’d like to leave hot. I left my motors hot so that I could use the trim buttons at the motor without crawling in and out of the boat. Onboard charger is another one to leave connected.

My boat came with the two battery master switch. You can shut the power off with it, or turn it to batteries 1 and 2 if the main is too dead to start the motor and it basically jumps from the other battery. I used it for the first time on Lake Superior a few weeks ago. Really nice option to have. Why all boats don’t have one doesn’t make much sense to me for the small cost to have that as a backup. I went and bought a new starting battery the next day. Hopefully I don’t need that again.

I mounted one of these in the top of my atwood battery box.
