Battery charger for sleeper house

What do you guys recommend… Battery Tender? Thinking of keeping 2 deep cycles in the fish house… Running 12v interior LEDs (3 fixtures), LED hole lights (6 of them) and a 12v ceiling fan. Also running 110 outlets for TV, microwave, misc kitchen appliances, and whatever we use to plug into the outlets…

Looking for advise on battery and charger set up.

    Thanks guys

    Josh

I have heard of people using the boat on board battery chargers wired up to a light switch. So when they are plugged into 120 (house at home or generator) they turn on the charger. They also have solar panels to help when they are on the ice. Hopefully I will be able to build one someday.

If money isnt tight wind generates much more energy than solar.

What’s supplying your 120v? Generator or inverter running off the batteries?

If inverter, you have a LOT of high wattage appliances on your wish list. You’ll need a big inverter and you’d better do your calculations carefully to ensure you have enough battery and charging capacity.

If you plan on running a generator, you can stick with your list. If you want to run only on battery power, but still have 120v by an inverter, I’d plan on ditching the microwave as that’s too big of a power hog. I’d also look at a 120v ceiling fan vs a 12 volt to see which is more efficient.

Once you have your game plan down with what you want to run and how, then you can size your charging and batteries.

    Changing course,

Does anybody here use a Wind or Solar Panel to charge or maintain their Batteries?

Would be interesting to see how big of Wind Turbine and Solar Arrays you use.

200 watts solar yields about 8 amps per hour charging 12v.

I have been using a Progressive Dynamics PD9270. It works great.

My Honda generator has a connection for 12v battery charging. It works sweeeeet. 120v and battery charging at the same time.

Any of the Progressive Dynamics Inteli chargers work great with a generator/battery system. How it works is the batteries and the wiring to your 12v system share the same connection to the Inteli charger. When the generator is running the inteli charger charges the batteries while powering the 12v system. When you shut down the generator you have a seamless switch over to the batteries. What works great is I don’t run my generator at night. Only during the day to run the 12v stuff and top off the batteries. I have one in my camper and fishouse. Everything in my fh is 12v but you can run 120v stuff at the same time you are charging the batts.
