Batteries or battery charger?

My trolling motor batteries seem to not be taking a full charge. Last few times out they aren’t lasting as long as they used to. 36 volt system, group 27 Interstate batteries 2 years old. This morning I decided to pay a little more attention. After about a half hour the Ipilot remote showed batteries at about 25% came in and hooked up Minnkota 4 bank charger after about a half hour charger said batteries were fully charged. Thought that was weird as it shouldn’t have been that fast. Unplugged charger and checked the Ipilot remote that showed maybe 50% charge, plugged charger back in and remote went to 100%. Charger is going on it’s 8th season.

Thoughts, I don’t have a voltmeter or any electronic tools.

Check water levels in batteries…without testing batteries or a volt meter best you can do at this point.

This and drag a standard battery charger out of the garage if you have one and see whether it confirms what the other is telling you.

Any autozone or o’reilly auto parts will do a load test on your batteries for free. I stopped at one yesterday to check both my trolling motor batteries and my cranking battery, all of which are on year 5. It doesn’t take more than a few minutes.

Both my trolling motor batteries are shot. My cranker is still good.

Thanks for replies. I am planning on replacing batteries and charger as I believe the charger is the issue and caused more issues with batteries.
