Batteries… And, downriggers

    Hi Everyone,

From the videos and pics on the web, i can tell that there is a 3 battery storage and charger compartment in the floor area.

Are those batteries and charger, in that compartment, for trolling batteries only?

If so, where is the starting battery?

How many additional batteries can be had? I’m asking because i’m wondering how i’d power my downriggers.

The space in the floor of the cockpit in my MX-2025 can take 3 batteries & a charger. Two for the trolling motor and one starting battery.
They’re is also enough space in the back starboard storage compartment, (where the oil well is) for another battery. There’s actually enough space for another battery in the back port side compartment also.

    Thanks Joel.

I imagine the electronics run off of the starting battery then?

There’s an option, shown on the site, called “Rear Drop-In Boxes”. I imagine that you could not fit a battery and the boxes in the back port\starboard compartments, right? So, if i put in a battery there for my downriggers, i’d sacrifice one of the storage boxes…?

note that i plan on going 4-stroke, so the oil well wouldn’t be installed.

Without the oil well, you will have quite a bit of room in that storage bin. Enough for the battery and quite a few plano 3700 tackle boxes.

Electronics do indeed run off starting battery.

In my MX2025, I’ve got 3 trolling motor batteries plus 4 bank charger in the floor. The starting battery is in the rear starboard compartment (in place of the drop in container), and when salmon fishing, I put another deep cell in the Port rear compartment (in place of the drop in container). It might be overkill, but I’m likely to run out of juice out there:)…..

    hi to_setter,

I like what you’re doing there. Did you have the factory wire this up? If not, how difficult was it to wire up the 4th\starting battery to the 4-bank-charger? And, how are you connecting the 5th/downrigger battery to your riggers?

    Hello Michael,
I bought my boat at SBC and they rigged the 3 tolling motor batteries, the starting battery, and the 4-bank charger. The fifth battery for downriggers and spreader lights I installed myself. I just removed the storage tub and screwed a battery tray and strap to the floor of that storage space. For running wires, I’ve got Cannon downriggers that came with through hull quick connections. I’ve just got the wires running from the battery to the through hull fittings. When I want to install riggers for Salmon fishing, I just have to plug them in to the through hull plugs. Works great!
While I didn’t run the wire from the charger to the starting battery in the rear storage, it would be very easy to do so. I’ve run wires from the floor storage to the back of the boat and it’s very simple with plenty of room to fish the wires through there.

Here you can see the through hull plug just ahead of the rear navigation light.

Thanks for the great info to_setter.

I posted a new topic “Need Help Choosing My New Boat” that i’m really hoping you could respond to, since you have the mx2025.

    thanks,
