Not sure I am going to be on-site to watch it, but I will at least watch it online. I am rooting for Iaconelli as usual. Its awesome the end of the year AOY tourney is going to be on Mille Lacs, it is estimated to bring over $9 million dollars into the economy that week.

He is starting strong today with two 5-6#+ fish in the first half hour!

He’s the Jaromire Jagr of Bassmaster.

Did I read that he basically doubled his weight from the first 2 days?

I plan to attend in September. Never been to one before and this one is so close it might be fun to check out. As a smallmouth lake it will be interesting to see how KVD does, that’s his bread and butter —

Anyone know if Clunn is fishing lake george? Is that where most competitors are fishing?

9 million sounds like alot of money, if it is a 50 boat field, that is about a $180,000 draw per angler. It will be interesting to see that tournament play out. How much time will the competitors spend here this summer? I would think that they would make a few different trips throughout the summer to figure out the lake.

I think KVD’s chance of winning on Mille Lacs are high. Clearwater/smallmouth/northern lakes are his bread and butter exactly!

I think many are on lake George sight fishing, Clunn is not sight fishing, not sure if he is on George.

The FWC runs a trophy catch competition down here. Not sure what size fish are eligible for the end of the year drawing, but they win a boat. I think every state should run something similar.

As much as I love fishing, going to stores, watching certain shows online, I’m surprised I could really care less about fantasy fishing.

Absolutely not a dig on anyone who does, just surprised why I’m not interested in the least.

Good luck to those that follow, those are some good prizes!

I am not the least interested as well, but I am always happy to spend 2 minutes once a month at a lucky chance for a huge fishing PAYDAY!

    From the BASS website…

“We applaud the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for its efforts to accommodate competitive bass fishing,” said Akin. “The Angler of the Year Championship is expected to generate $3.4 million in economic impact for the region, and the area will continue to benefit as the bass fishing world learns about the fantastic fishing available in Mille Lacs Lake.”

The best scenario would be huge bags of bass weighed. People would come.

wow I must have read it wrong 2 weeks ago when I first saw it. BUT 3.8 million will be needed badly in the area after this summer… Thanks for the clarification!

I always wonder how they come up with those figures. It’s a nice number, but where is it going?

Sure hope that number doesn’t include an estimate on money spent at the casino….:D

the casino is the weigh-in site and major area sponcer. i would say most, if not all of the competaters will be staying at either the casino or eddies. so to answer your question about how much money will be spent at the casino, $100 a night X 7 nights X 50 plus gambling.

…there you go! So maybe the great economic infusion will only be felt by the tax exempt sovereign nation. So basically everyone else gets screwed again.

As far as 50 competitors spending that much, it is not just them figured into the equation. It figures all the fans that flock to the area. If you went to Lacrosse at all for the 2 events over past 4 years, you would have seen the people in the area. It all means $$ spent on hotels, gas, food, parking, bars, etc.

that was my point, each competitor needs to generates that amount of money, not spend that amount. the $3.5 million number is more realistic. if all the follow boats that you see on tv watching their favorite, make the drive from the states to the south, they might get to that $3.5 million estimate. new question….. now that the bass regulations have been changed for the 2016 season, will this have any effect on the tournament or future tournaments???

If I read this correct, these are the bass regulations for Mille Lacs for 2016:

Other changed regulations for the 2016 season on Mille Lacs include:

Walleye: Night closure beginning Monday, May 16, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and continuing through Dec. 1. Muskellunge anglers may fish at night but all baits, live or artificial, in possession must be at least 8 inches long.
Northern pike: Five fish with only one longer than 40 inches. All northern 30-40 inches long must be immediately released.
Bass: Four fish with only one longer than 21 inches. All fish 17-21 inches long must be immediately released.

Will the BassMaster Elite still come to Mille Lacs when no fish between 17-21″ can be kept with only one over 21″ and a four fish limit? Seems like you can’t really have a tournament to see who can catch the most big bass with those regulations. Will they implement some type of weighing or length measurement system and then immediately release the bass somewhat like the AIM walleye tournaments do?

Bass tournaments are exempt from the regs.

“The ability to exempt large bass tournaments from the size regulation and bag limits remains.”

So, yeah, pretty much B.A.S.S. size tournaments.
