Does anyone know if the river is starting to break up yet or is this just a pipe dream? If I can find some open water somwhere I am just apt to try putting my boat in.
    Deep breaths…

No open water up here. I have a case of dynomite that might fix that problem though.

I got a little guy named Jake. He’s been fishing in the minnow tanks. I can always ask if he’ll make some room for you, JC.

I was thinking about just driving over to Stoddard simply to look at the frozen river. Now that’s crazy.

Hopefully soon we’ll be on the water.

    Thanks,

Actually, i’ve driven up to Lansing and Prairie Du Chien twice in the last two weeks just to look, better yet “PRAY”, for open water. Ain’t cabin fever a B#@#@.

Sunshine is on it’s way my friends. Highs neer fifty in south west wisconsin and in the low fourty’s throughout the state. In LaCrosse and Platteville the snow as of today is almost completely gone. The reports on the radio is that the river is on the rise. Hopefully the flucuation in water pressure under the ice will start to break it loose. I know it’s thick but as long as the water keeps changing depth it should break it apart. To all… good luck on this springs fishing. I hope I’m the first person out on the water. I’m guessing I’ll be able to put in at genea easily in three weeks, maybe sooner. I don’t know though whether or not I will fish bass or walleye. I don’t know the main channel fish worth a darn on pool nine and my pool 8 spots on the channel are a haul from any landing, except maybe seventh street. but that stays frozen for a bit. I have always had fun spending time with my friends drifting in the middle of 50 boats (not excacty a bass fishers dream) just to catch a walleye or more though 8 inch saugers. Oh well anything to pass the time. Does anybody want to share some halfway decent spots someone might nail a few bass on pool 8 when the ice is just going out. If not understandable. Just post it or drop me a PM.

Happy spring and may our cabin fever tempers help fuel the heat of the sun.

I just drove by the Miss pool 16 and 15- looks like the main channel has no ice on it. couldnt see any backwaters but might have to go for a little boat ride this weekend to see how it looks. Not long now!

For what its worth the ice on Lake Pepin is about a inch thinner this week than las week. It’s still 20″ in most spots so we have a long way to go. http://www.mvp.usace.army.mil/docs/channel/Ice_report.pdf
I did catch 2 13″ smallies at Red Wing Last Friday. If you hang around those walleyes long enough you can catch a quality fish.

Well… After further consideration, I guess it depends on how liberal people are with the “Gibbs area”… I don’t. Does anyone else consider this Gibbs?

A free, lifetime supply of fishing with me…. of course, this COULD be negotiated!

Oh, and sorry for making “another” mistake… darn-it!
