No not singing . Jeremy and the crew on the favorite pools for Bass post mentioned getting stuck. When you guys were talking about it a couple monthes ago I meant to start this post but I forgot. How many of you have gotten stuck and tell us the story.

Mines really short… I am constantly exploring different areas of water with the bottom of my boat. Just before the
water went down on pool 9 last year I was back in the backwater on the north end of Minnesota slough. I had some fun fishing around for bass and decided that the storm coming wasn’t worth it. So as usual I waited till the last second. Went to full throttle and headed south and proceeded to turn left one opening to soon.(I was taking the shortcut back up to the dam). I still am not sure how I got out!!!

I misjudged the low water area two years ago in upper pool 10, Harpers slough, and ran my 20 foot Ranger about 100 yards onto the sand bar before it stopped in 6 inches of water, A local guy and his wife came out with his 16 foot aluminum and helped pry us off the sand. I asked him if this happened much? He laughed and told me I was the 13th one to run aground there that day!

    Geeperz.
Have I been stuck, I don’t even know where to begin. The only one that worried me was running the south shoot out of state line next to the tracks. The water was about a foot lower than I was expecting from earlier travels during the day. I made it down but as anyone know the only way out is back up or idle over a serious mud bar for about a mile. I chose to head back up. I hit her hard and was doing fine blowing mudd and much all over the place. When I finally met up with the sand I got sucked right in. The boat didn’t teater but I was in the middle of no where and it was all but dark. I pushed and pushed until I thought I was going to pass out and finally I made it to a small ditch. From there I jacked the motor up and blow out of there with nothing in the water but the prop until the hot alarm fired. Then I trimmed her down and thanked her for holding together as soon as I made it back to the ramp. Yep, Mercs liked being talked to.

I’m running a skinney area of the river when I turn a corner and there’s a guy right in the middle of the ditch. Now, being the good fellow that I am, I shut’er down, go past and he looks at me and shouts, ” you ought to learn how to control that thing or get off the water…” Hmm. Let’s review.

I’m nice, considerate and follow the tournament directors wishes of being so. Yet the guy trys to take bite out of my sack…

Ok, I’m still rather cool, and I just say, “you know, you’re right in the middle of the ditch.” Well, he begins to cus; being that I’m older and wiser now, I choose not to thump his mellon (can you imagine mama and the kids down at the polkie, gettin’ daddy out of jail for thumpin’ some knob?).

So, I get back up, look at my partner next to me as I’m feeling all good and mushy inside ’cause I’m a humanitarian when suddenly -in that split second of lookin’ at my partner- I run out of the ditch and hit the sand bar on the side and get stuck. I’m all of 100 yards from that kind fellow I just spoke to. He starts making comments. I turn around and say, “I hope you get your limit today, kind fellow!”

Well, I get up to the front, put the little motor down, and we manage to rock our way out.

    That’s my story.

    Thanks,

Don’t remember how far… but I do remember the words my father used… And, how long it took! Neither of which should be shared or put in writing…

Serioulsy, we’ve all been on the sand bars… fortunately, that is what this was. Its those blasted ROCKS that are a financial problem!!!

Anyone hear about the guy who put his boat in the trees on Pool 7 in 2002 up near Gibbs? Was wondering if that was folk-lore or for real?

Running a small and slow boat doesn’t lend itself to great stories of getting stuck. However, I also heard the story of the boat in the trees and would like to know if that really happened???????

Boat in the trees??? I think there is a guy that goes
by the name, “Baitcaster” that might have a story about
a Javelin on the bank, and maybe close to the trees.
Something about a net getting caught in the hot foot,
    or something like that.

    Kenny, you out there?

I think there was a post on this site (older- fishtheriver) of a boat in a tree a couple of years back. The best one is the one of the barge that ran into a bridge, submerged almost totally, then kept going downriver. Anyone remember that one, LOL?

Hey bassbarron, I received an email of a tugboat that hit a bridge during high water, submerged under the bridge with crew still inside, popped out on the other side with the bilge and engine still running…wonder if this is the same one. 3 years ago I was fishing a tourny on the Castle Rock Flowage up in the Yellow River backwater, there was a good current up one of the side channels and just as my partner yells “stop there’s a stump” the boat slid right up on it, with the current I couldn’t back up or could’ve swamped the boat…so both of us jump out in 8′ of water and rocked the boat off…took about 20 minutes due to we couldn’t get any leverage, way over my head, we were only 10′ from a shallow sandbar….we were getting alot of strange looks from passer by’s!

last year in early october 50 some degree water temp we headed into this little marina and theres a pile of mud in the mouth

well we fish this marina alot and know that if yo get past the docs theres still going to be 5 foot of water

we get in there 10 foot past the mudd hump and we are stuck cant motor off cant push pole i grab a crank bait rod and start throwing in front of the boatthe back trebbel hook sticks out of the water the whole retrieve

i dont know how we got in that far so we both get into the undies and jump in well initally our ankels get wet then we sink in the mud im up to my good parts before i stoped sinking takes us 25 minutes to push back out

in the process of pushing out 2 guys in a ranger are bassfishing the mouth of this marina they say hi and are 15 foot away from us and go down the bank on there mary way fishing there was no why are you 2 in your undies pushing out or hey can we throw you a rope

i was expecting a how the heck you get stuck there

ive got even better stories of other people 2 of wich involve dry shoe laces

The bass boat in the trees story in Gibbs is true, I saw the pictures. Don’t think anyone would set that up as a hoax. It was a Stratos I believe.

    Yup,

Saw the boat in the trees and know that fella. Last summer I had alot of time in pushing both mine and my partners boats. One of the worst was in june when the weeds startd to get really high it was hard to see running in the narrow backwater areas. My Bud took the wrong turn and tried to whip it around but it was too late, She stopped and tipped on its side. Took 20 min to move it 25 feet, now thats shallow!
