    Hey everyone.

I am looking for some general tips for fishing Pool 7. I am heading to Lacrosse this weekend to visit some friends and I plan to bring the boat. This forum seems to cover the area well so I thought it would be good to ask. I am looking for a good place to launch a boat on pool 7? I own a TX17 Bass Tracker and can launch on swallow water. Are most of the boat ramps open? I know in St. Paul (Pool 2) we are still closed due to high water.
Also if anyone would be so kind to point me in the right direction on where to catch some bass? I have a friend that I take out once a year and would like to get him some fish. Any tips on presentations would be great as well. Thanks in advance and I look forward to posting a lot on this site.

Hit Lake Onalaska. It is on the very southern most part of the pool. I used the public ramp next to Schaefer’s last Saturday without a problem.

    Good Luck,

Well, there are only 4 main launches on Pool 7. All are open.

    1. Trempeleau Landing: Was under water w/the high water – not sure if it’s usable or not right now?

    2. Dresbach Landing – not a good idea as it’s on the main channel so w/this high water and current, not a good idea…PLUS if you don’t have a parking permit (resident only) you have to park up on the street…so it’s basically not worth your time.

    3. Shafer’s Landing on Brice Prairie: This landing puts you on the Lake, only 1 side is open right now b/c of some Dirt and reeds literally so thick the one side its grown over….It needs to be plowed out. decent parking and has run over up on top of the hill.

    4. Sailboat Club – French Island: My favorite launch as it’s only 2 minutes from my door …Also puts you on the Lake….Launch is clean, good dock and has decent parking with run over on backside…

I’d use either Shafer’s or Sailboat club depending on what direction you’ll be coming from…

website?? no…the sailboat club is private owned, the landing is next to it and public…It’s at the Northern tip of French Island.

Water temps range from mid to upper 50’s…and yes…the bass are biting

There is also a landing on Fisherman’s Road on French Island in the far SE corner of the lake.

So I know you guys said the sailboat club would be my best bet but….. I am driving down on Sunday morning now and want to save the time. Has anyone ever launch out of Dakota? I am reading that its a shallow launch. That is fine because I have a small 17 ft bass tracker and I figured with the high water it would be do able. If I launch there it cuts 30 mins off the drive. Thanks again

If your fishing the river itself the Dakota or Dresbach landing would work good…
If’in you want to fish the lake then the sailboat club would work better..
But it’s not a 30 min extra….10-15 min more would put you there

Not far….but a bit tricky if you don’t know the sloughs and channels….
But with the current river levels it’s not as bad.

If the lake is what you really want…then the sailboat club is the way to go…
The extra drive really is not that much.

Be careful. Rumor has it someone made there 3-blade prop into a 1.5 blade due to a hard object (stump???). Good luck.

Wow what a crap weekend. Not the lake but my car and boat have never acted up so bad. I had a battery die on Tuesday which was 100 bucks to fix. Then when I went to get the boat wet on Friday nothing worked. So I took the boat back to the battery place to get everything set up right. Heading back to the ramp again as I am pulling up behind the boat in line my brake pedal hits the floor limp. I broke a brake cylinder and had no rear brakes. (thank god I was not sitting in rush hour). Ended up getting that fixed on Saturday morning (200 bucks). So drive down to LAX on Sunday and put in on the lake and blow a fuse when I turn on my driving graph…….. Ends up out of all the 30 fuses I have I don’t have a 3 amp. So I end up taking 1.5 hours to find one. Checked 2 gas stations and Menards and finally found some at an auto parts store. So I replace the fuse and it blows again…. must have a short. So we decide to drive very slow and have the trolling motor down and have the bow mount graph read depths. I trimmed the engine up almost out of the water and still managed to hit a stump. I was going very slow but just added to the day. So we just trolled around in the lake. Well about 5 hours later I tried to start the big engine up and no water was coming out of the thermostat hole. So I bring the boat in and pull her off the water and pull the plug. I did have some water get in because I was leaning over the back looking at the engine when the water was not coming out. So logically I flip my bilge pump switch……… POP! blows that fuse and the front trolling motor fuse. So in my silent rage I drive home. When I get home I unplug the driver graph and replace the fuses. NOTHING BLOWS. Then when I put power to the driver graph it blew its fuse again and fired my CD deck.

By far the worst weekend when it comes to boating.

I did boat 3 bass in between the time with all the stuff happening. Water was about 60 degrees. They seemed to be sitting about 6-10 ft deep on hard bottom. Biggest bass was 16 inch about 1.25 lbs.

Can’t wait to get the boat into the shop. I love spending money. Maybe if I stay positive it will fix its self…………….

Again thanks for all the tips guys

Yeah I have heard that about 1,000,000,000,000,000,00 in the last 4 days. On the up side at least I am not dead with the brakes cutting out and my boat still floats. OOO the cost of having a hobby
