I am looking to get a hot spot map for pool 9. Where is the best place to purchase or download such a map?. Also are there any websites that show the approx. depth of the river in the back waters.

I have a hot spots map of pool 13 but have never seen any other pools from 9-18 on the hot spots maps. I have never found other maps that give the backwater depths because of the variability in water levels. I ran into a guy from the Minn BASS federation a few years back that had some maps with approximate depth, current and weed type in each backwater- but he said he spent many many hours online to find them. I have the Navigation Charts from the Army COE and what i do is try to write down the depth in various backwaters and record the river stage at that time to give myself an approximate depth of each place. This is not real precise though, and is always changing. The COE maps are big enough you can color code some entries of depth at various stages, problem is you gotta have time to get out there and it doesnt help in areas you have never been. If anybody else has a source for maps with depth and hot spots i too would love to hear about them

I know you can buy the whole book from the corps quite reasonable. If I come up with a site to do this I will post it….JIM

Gentlemen… here are some of the BEST maps I have ever seen… ALL TYPES…

Here is a direct link to a map…
    ftp://ftp.umesc.er.usgs.gov/pub/gis_data/graphics/map_products/umrs/lcup7.gif

Here is the front page… hover over the different map types…Topo, Photos, Land use, Water coverage… all kinds… The GIF Wall Maps are the best!

    http://www.umesc.usgs.gov/geographic_search/river_selection/upper_mississippi/reach_1/pool_7/p7_gis_preview.html

If you have access to a plotter (engineering/architecture type printer) you can get them poster sized and laminated… I did a couple… AWESOME maps. Check this out and let me know what you think!?!?

As for the Hot Spots Maps, I have copies of some of the pools…Pretty darn good, but 30 years old and counting… Come on HotSpots, generate new ones!!!!
