Well I must admit I’ve been keeping things under my hat for a while. I officially caught my first bass of the year and first open water “winter” bass ever on March 16th. It was the only fish of the day but it was nice that it was a keeper. Contrary to popular belief, the fish were not biting every cast.
Since then Since then I have I have been out a few other times with nothing extremely exciting to report. Still, its great to get out and shake out a few cobwebs. I fished for a couple hours on pool 8 last night and was very pleased with the result. Dispite the frigid night before and high, murky waters, I felt a bite on my first cast with my finesse presentation. It ended up being a quality female perch. Justin and I soon found out that the area was teaming with these fat females that will soon be dropping their eggs nearby. We caught about 10 keepers, all of which were released. What made me even happier were the few bass I was catching in between the perch. Coming out of wood cover I caught the first 2 keepers from pool 8 this year. Although both were just 14-1/2 to 15″, it was still great to be catching them close to home again. Can’t wait for the weeks ahead.
PS- thank you to whomever took their valuable time to jacknife my boat trailer for me at the boat landing. It was good for a laugh Just hope it makes you feel even better about yourself.
