NEW LURES: BOGUS?

Let’s face it… all these new lures being put out each year. Do they really work? or are most of them just trying to gimic you into buying their lure becuase it looks like a minnow. Isn’t it true though that just becuase a lure is a picture image of a baitfish it still needs to have three main components to really catch fish,1. durabillity,2. good action,3. sharp hooks. Without these three things a lure simply can not be affective. I guess what this post is really about is what does everyone think about some of these new wacked out baits coming out onto the market. I know I like to try new lures but I still get more results on basic plastics rapala fat raps, and spinners. The only new lures that I have found to be affective are the quad blade titanium spinner baits and the rapala fat raps. I would like your opinions and suggestions on new lures. I think this post could save us all the trouble of buying a lure that looks good but doesn’t work worth aaaaa not good.

let em go so they can grow

Some are gimics, and some hold real value.

It is wading through the trash (remember some like the lod salamader crankbait with the curly tail on back?) to find the treasures (new inventive baits like the first slugo, the Senko, etc.)

What kind of baits have you seen this year that you are talking about?

things like ant crankbaits and cacoon crank baits. And especially all the new crank baits like the frenzy baits as well as many of the new lip less cranks that look good but have a less desirable action and a substandard mark of quality.

seems to me alot of the new quality lipless baits etc out there are very high dollar but you do see alot more of these every year being thrown over a rattle trap

same with top water theres the pop r and then the high dollar pop r that suppposed to be sanded etc to be more of a splsh then a boil when retrieved

then there is the rogue and husky jerk with alot of people going to the pointer now

i personally havent used any of the really high dollar baits
except for the sammy and didnt get to use it enough to know if i like it better then a super spook but i think it will be

alot of it is price for not trying these things for me any way but i like the senkos and dont buy the others for some reason even though there cheaper

Lets face it. . . . lures are designed to catch US, not the fish!!

I’ll be the first to admit that I have “bitten” on some of these new gimic baits. Some work, some don’t but you have got to give “kudos” to the marketing guys behind them all!!

That must be why I spend a weekend every year, this time of year, sorting out all of those lures I just had to have. Oh well, the neighborhood kids just love me for that!!

I keep telling myself that even if it looks good I wont use it unless it has Rapala stamped on it….LOL

I also am impressed with the quality and durability that rapala has given us. One lure I have come to not leave the landing without is the new skitter props. They can be worked in several different manners and seem to produce more fish for me than the pop-rs. My favorite color is shad but i have also come to like the green frog.

As long as we’re talking about frogs…. i know alot of you gentleman like fighing in the slop, then again who doesn’t love that explosive method of fishing. But have many of you tried the new slop rats that look alot like a moss boss but have more a v shaped keel with built it rattles? I have been using them once and a while but with a single hook i get less hookups than a regular rubber rat with inserted glass packs.

Let’s not forget some of the lures released “relatively” recently…some named here…that have changed how you may fish…I know it has me…

    Senko
Finess worms (ribbed, etc) on drop shot
    Titanium Made Spinners
    Quad spinners
    And others…

The secret, as most pointed out, is to find the “winner” amongst them… often times, the winner is really the one that gets recognition via a tourney win…

Mann’s is (for example) expected to release the “Stone Jig” and the “Swim Worm” that Mike Iconnelli won last year with…So, who *won’t* buy one of these to try…and, in several colors…

If they catch fish, word will spread, otherwise… it will be on clearance!

there are 2 new spinner baits out from strkie king they are both low profile baits that will deffinantaly see my tackel box

they are the size of a 3/16 bait but the half ounz weight sure to be an awesome river bait for the simple fact its moe versitile with smaller blades my better river baits for numbers has always been smaller spinnerbaits that i used to make

but i went to a heavier rod and a longer rod also found they gouldnt be fished quickly so i went bigger (about the time every one else did)

one guy in my club mops up when they are on a spinner bait bite he uses a very small compact bait

now this new one comes out is it a gimick?? no they are promoting it like it is they said this bait helped george cochran win his classic at the time he wont the classic he fishin the crank bait if mind serves me right

the main reson i brought this up is the weighting design of this spinner bait has been around awhile i found on in an old tackle box 5 years ago with this weighting design also i believe vpr brand is also weighted this way so it has been around for awhile but it is for sure the next hot bait
