Some days its lemons and you need to make lemonade. The trip was supposed to be for walleye. However, after 3 fishless hours we gave up. Jim knew of a nearby back channel that was ice-free and had little current. To our surprise we found 50 degree water as we entered the slew. We weren’t ready for bass so we had to improvise. We converted mushroom jig -heads to shaky-heads and added chartreuse ringworm’s (bass love em too) and proceeded to catch 15, 13-16” bass. No monsters, but it was great to get the season started!

ha ha thats funny I was thinking the same thing on sunday. I was draggin ringworms for bottom feeders and thought “I should pitch this rock wall to see if I can catch a bass” and sure enough BINGO!!!! I only caught one and it was only a 10 incher but i gave him a kiss and thought “thank god bass fishing is finally here again!!!”
