I caught the tail end of the MN DNR pulling test nets for small fish. They were on the beach, just outside the Wabasha Harbor. It’s good-news, bad-news. Their words were lots of LM fry and a smattering of emerald shiners but no shad. It looks like the cool spring has the eating size (for game fish) aren’t there yet. They did say they had some decent size shad at Red Wing and the upper part of Pepin. Sounds like a few more weeks here on lower pool 4. I’ve seen some LM the last few days that really need a good meal.

ive noticed too that some of the p4 largemouth have had huge heads and skinny. we were on 5a this weekend and most of the fish down there seemed alot more healthier

The bite is on the slow side. Don’t expect the fish to chase, fen em on the bottom.
