    Hey Guys,

I am wondering what the safest way to Lake Onalaska from the main channel is. I often fish pool 7 and sometimes I want to wander into Lake Onalaska, but am unsure of where to go. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have a 1700 Lund Fisherman. Skinny water is not my friend.

    Thanks,

go all the way down to the dam.. and come in on that opening between the two islands.. should be plenty of deep water there.. if its not deep..nose around some.. on idle.. but there used to be 20 some foot of water there.. and you can go fairly well along the rip rap until you get to the spill way in the middle..

there is a hump there.. but after that you can go all the way up that lower eastern shore line..

    I hope that this helps..

Should be buoys between the islands, I usually run right on them when heading towards the spillway. Stay on your same path after coming through the island, if you get too far left you will get in the shallow flats. You should be able to see the weeds pretty easy by now. Once past the flat, you can hang a left and up the the marina. You will see people running across the flat, but I do not advise.

Thanks for the replies! I just want to double check. Do I have to run on plain after the buoys?

I was just out there yesterday. If you go between the islands near the dam as explained above just keep running straight east and keep about 150-200 yards out from shore. It runs about 5 feet average with a few deeper holes. Once you get past Red Oak Island you can turn it north. There usually are plenty of boats out there to follow their clear. I normally run wide open and have never hit anything but weeds.
