Mikehd and myself launch his boat after work Wednesday for are mid week therapy. What a change with water temps and the bite in just 3 days. Back water temps have dropped 3 degrees and the main channel dropped all of 5 degrees. The fish went from spanking lures too (what the heck, winter is coming) and are becoming a little lethargic.

Top water frog baits did provide us with some action with short fish while looking for warmer water. We did have one monster pike on for a short while until it hit a weed patch that I could not stop it from getting into. That made for a short time of fun and a barley break but, for the most part we were throwing are arms off trying to get into something of size.

After an assessment of the top water action we starting tossing swim baits and spinners only to produce some pickerel sized pike.
Tossing lipless cranks and Shad raps to rock and wingdams looking for the bronze backs produce one Walleye for Mike. We were thinking we just flat out sucked at the game but talking with a few other dudes that we know are good sticks put are minds at ease……we weren’t the only ones that struggled this evening. So if you found a tough bite you weren’t alone. If you had a good bite you should feel good about it, you were one of the few

I never thought I would say this but…….we need some warm stable weather, after all it is summer…..right
On a good note, if it stays like this the ice should be forming early this year

Pictured here were the two nicest fish that made it in the boat for a picture. See what I mean….nothing to brag about. On the bright side, it was still a good night of therapy while sippin’ suds with my fishing partner on the river. We always seem to have fun, and the topics that come up, well……they are some discussions probably best if kept to ourselves

Note to self; stay down wind and keep my mouth closed after Mike has consumed a 1.5lb taco salad for lunch

    Good luck fishing people

I fished pool 10 yesterday and also found the bite slow at best. I tried running sloughs first with a few falling to a spinnerbait. Then I pounded the slop for a few hours with not much to show for it. The fish seemed on the small side and were striking short most times. I then concentrated on rock piles with current I had the best luck there. Tried alot wingdams with only 1 bass being caught. It sure seemed the water was really muddy. Alot of boats were running around so I had to figure they were having the same luck. I know 1 thing the pike population on 10 is thriving . Hopefully by this weekend things straighten out and the big ones start snapping. Dan

I did thanks Bret. I got a new pedal and I cannot believe the differance it made. Its like the trolling motor is brand new again. I can actually hold myself on wingdams now .

The gills were running small yesterday on 9 as well. But Jerry just had a hay day with em! Dad’s stick never made the water as the little devils were aggressive enough to keep even his attention for a little better than an hour.

Fishing was tough for me also today. Fished almost four hours with only one keeper and only a few smaller bass. Nothing on topwater. The pike bite was fantastic though, the toothy critters sure love this weather pattern.
