Topwater Bite

Last Saturday all my big fish came on a frog. You really had to have some patience you could just wiggle the frog a bit and then they would just suck it in. No real blow ups but some real nice fish in an area that just gets pounded with spinnerbaits and jigs. I figured they haven’t seen too many frogs yet. No bites on buzz baits? Dan
June 4, 2009 at 8:19 pm #781497Last w-end, that was basically the only bite Bret and I had going. Like Dan, slow was key too.
Jon, have you checked out the Bobby frog that Brian sells? Let me knowJune 4, 2009 at 8:28 pm #781499Last weekend we caught almost all of our fish on topwater. I had very little success on frogs, the fish I caught came mostly on a Boss Rat. I was surprized that the fish were crushing it too! The bite was sporadic though, fish seemed to really be scattered.
June 4, 2009 at 11:20 pm #781562I agree birdman, scattered ws the word.
I did my best on a white horny toad and the purple ribbit. Went through a package of each.
It was a blast Jeff
June 5, 2009 at 4:20 am #781669And to think i’ve been leaving the frogs sit in the house yet. Sounds like I need to get the dust off them and start fishing. Thanks for the heads up guys
June 5, 2009 at 6:58 am #781705Jeff,
Ill leave those Bobbys perfect frogs on the rack for you and brian…I’ll stick with my SPROBret,
I used the rage shads yesterday for a while and those fish rip off the tail of those things like no other…i went through a pack of them within like 15 minutes it was rediculous, how do the horny toads and ribbits hold up for you?June 6, 2009 at 12:35 am #781891They hold up about as good as any other plastic I guess. The legs on the ribbits are rigid and hardly ever tare off, unless hit by the toothy critters.
The nose will rip open on both after a few fish but I just let them dry out and weld them back together with the bic lighter. This will normally last another fish or two.June 6, 2009 at 9:03 pm #782037The horny toad bite is picking up on pool 4. Clean, sparse pads seem to be the best areas right now.

If you guys like the Ribbit frog, check out the BPS hummpin Toad. I think you get more to a pack and they are almost the same.

Hey Bret:
Find a product call Mend-it (I think that is the name). You put a little bit of it on plastic and it chemically welds it back shut. I used to to the lighter thing as well, but the Mend it seems to get a slightly better fix, though not as good as new, and is much easier and quicker. And no burnt finger hair either.

Is that the same Mend-it you see on tv, or is there another one out their.
June 8, 2009 at 11:49 pm #782412Not sure, I’ll double check the name tonight at home. I think it it called mend it soft bait glue.

Thanks, I will look the stuff up
I tried to get Jeff Jensen to put his finger on the plastic after I welded one up but he was smarter than I thought

that’s a great tip…as to holding up, I’ve been seeing the ‘chartreuse legs’ on the baits tending to come off…they’re welded on as opposed to molded…
on another note, Zoom has come out with a new color: green pumpkin magic…man, am I waiting to see this in the HT…it’s pretty special right now in the super fluke…
