Looked like quite a few were spawned out at the weigh in yesterday Jon. I didn’t notice, were any of yours carrying eggs yet. By the looks of it, they might be on the back side of the spawn.

i thought most of them might be done already….all of ours were the skinny males, no fat females… those woulda been nice tho

I have to agree Jon, I think they may actually be done. All of our fish were skinny. At the weigh in I didn’t really see any fat fish. Water temps were in low 60’s everywhere we fished so whi knows.

Different bodies of water….but I have to respectfully disagree 100% and say that they’re not even close to being done spawning yet…

While I don’t argue that a few may have gone, I’ve seen too many pre-spawn toads being caught up to this day….

I know you’ll see the first HUGE wave of them going this week as the full moon approaches (friday), and it will continue on accordingly….but don’t count them as done just yet..

    Good Luck

The smallies that Bret and I caught on Saturday on Pool 8 are still round and haven’t spawned yet. The water temps are still in the upper 50’s in most back water areas with a few slack water areas approaching 60.

LM have started on pool 4/5 but just the first wave. It will go on for at least 2 weeks. No sign of a SM spawn yet.

I agree that the largemouth are up..caught one last night that looked like a spawned out female, too bad too, because we had 4-14 in a 2 fish tournament where you only needed 5-1 to get in the money. it was tough last night. we did catch a few smallmouth in shallow spawning areas, but they were all males. The big females shouldn’t be too far behind..

I don’t think they’re all done but in some of the shallower backwaters there was definitely spawning taking place. I think maybe with the spring water levels being lower than normal that some of the backwaters warmed up faster.

I was really surprized that there wasn’t bigger fish brought in for the weigh in. Two days earlier the big girls cooperated but tourney day nada.

Down here on pool 13 they have not finished with the spawn just yet. A Bass world tournament on Sunday had two 22# 5 fish limits weighed in.

I fished today in a farm pond in Northern Illinois and half our fish had spawned and some were still full of eggs.

I saw my 1st SM spawn activity on poll 4 today. Actually saw a male and female doing their thing. It’s all seeing and no catching for me. I’ll figure it out one of these days.

lol… I agree completely. 2 weeks ago the smallies were just starting to look around. Nothing was locked up.
