Does anyone know if there is any public or private landing located on Pool 2 south of the St. Paul Park access befor hastings. I see a few on a river map. Bud’s landing in Spring lake – Grey Cloud Island in Grey Cloud – and one called Spring Lake Park in Spring Lake. Does anyone know if any of these landing are open and what condition they are in. Thanks.

To my knowledge, all of those have been closed for years. The only public one is Lions Levee access (Willy’s Hidden Harbor) in St Paul Park.
edit – The spring lake access is over on the Hastings side of the river. I have not seen it this year, but I would not try to put a large boat in there.

May 1, 2009 at 10:08 pm #773206Buds landing is a pay to launch site….it has a fair channel that will enable you to get to the main river, but if you wander off the channel you’re in stump heaven…take it from a duck hunter who knows
Spring lake park access is free, its a shallow sand landing that gets very little use other than in the fall, it has enough room for possibly 5 rigs to park, minimum maintenance road down to the landing, and you may want a 4 wheel drive to get your boat back out if its of good size, because of the shallow sand landing itself. After launching head for the green buoy towards the mississippi and you’ll find the main channel with no problem. One word of caution if you use the spring lake launch….predators are out there, I mean people cruise the landing and pilfer the vehicle you drove in on, let the air out of your tires, just plain mischief. there is only one way down to it, and they can see if your boat is approaching, and can hear if any other vehicles are coming down the road and stop whatever behavior they may be doing. I use it, just make sure I have nothing of value around, its the same thing every year but becasue of how remote it is, it seems as if no one ever is held accountable. On the other hand there are some dandy eyes and panfish to be had in the immediate area, that;s why I keep going there, just a rusty ‘ol river rats views
May 4, 2009 at 9:33 pm #773811Good info on the landing Paul. I have driven to that Spring Lake landing and your description sure doesnt suprise me. It looked like one of those places kids and punks would go to hang out, leave trash, etc. Too bad. You’ve convinced me not to use it.

If you have a big 4wd and a roller trailer you may be able to do it but you’ll need waders to get the boat off the trailer. And it’s all sand so hopefully you won’t get stuck.

where is the channel out of bud’s landing?
the channel out of buds landing runs right next to shore, but i don’t know if its accessible by an outboard rig. last year before duck season, there was a huge log jam in that channel, and some of it was cleared out, but it was still full of logs under water too.
mike – buds landing is where i launch on spring, you have to pay on a year to year basis, and its pretty much impossible to get a key now, he is filled up from what i’ve heard.
