Alright ya’ll I know this is a pretty bad question but guys around here are arguing about whether its alright to put plastic worms in the tackle box or not. Some say its important to keep the worms in the zip-loc bag that they come in to keep their scent- others say it don’t matter cause the tackle box will keep in the scent enough. What do yall think? Oh! and what do yall think about scent sprays? I heard they’re pretty good. But what all(kinds of lures) do you use them on besides worms and such? YUM scents or BANG scents which is better? Thanks Yall

I am a believer that scents do NOT help all that much… HOWEVER, I always have some BANG (Craw+Minnow) scent in the boat. When I KNOW fish are where I am, if I get nothing, I will use it, and, for what it is worth, have seen it actually work. So, it depends. I have had guys in the boat and use the heck out if it and I have out fished them 2 to 1… AND, have seen times when I wished I had some. SO, not sure there is a clear answer. The guys I have seen have the most success use it on jigs.

As for plastics… it depends. The new “super-flex plastics”… better keep them in the BAG unless you want your other lures to “melt” or otherwise discolor. If it is traditional plastics, I keep them all in a Plano 2600 (I think the # is right). They are COMPLETELY fine and I have no problems. With that said, plastics I am buying now for next season, will stay in there bags until the opening day.

I think many have different opinions on these topics, but there is my two cents!

my thoughts on scent.I think scents are important for masking human scent. If you smoke, chew or have some wild soap on then use scent. Just filled up the gas tank, put oil in the boat use scent. As far as my plastics go i toss them in one of my compartments in the boat still in the bag.

I agree with Danwi, use them for a coverup. Odors such as gas and oil, I will use a nonscented soap and then a scent spray.

I use Bang, craw and minow. I’ve also heard guys swear by WD40!

I keep all my plastics in the bag as it has a better seal than does a tackle box.

Do scents work? I’ve seen them make a difference in early spring and when fishing is tough.

    Thanks,

I’ve heard the WD-40 deal, too… And, as a environmentally-conscience fisherman, I am VERY against this. WD-40 is NOT a sound environmental chemical. This is no different than throwing gas in the river…

I should point out that I am not foolish enough to think that my 2-cycle engine is “clean”, however, I don’t wish to ADD to the pollutants that threaten our waterways and keep the engine in top-running shape to minimize the impacts. In fact, I do not even throw old worms, skirts, hooks, etc that many, when done with them, throw into the water… Out-of-sight, Out-of-mind does not bode well for the environment.

Okay, I will get off my soap box.

    Clean fishing……

I like the scents more for the taste element than the actual scent. This probably only holds true for certain scents. I think the fish will hold a scented plastic longer than an unscented, non-powerbait type of plastic.

MossBoss… so, if the plastics you are using have salt or scent “included” or impregnated into the plastics, you choose NO scent?

    Makes sense to me.

I have to say, the Yamamoto HIGH-salt lures are more productive (fish hold them longer), but only ONE fish per lure… they are soft and $$$. “Please, may I have another?”

No, I will use it on salt impregnated worms.

From my observations, bass will hold zoom plastics longer with Kick-n-bass on them than without. They are the only plastics I have tried back to back to see if I can tell a difference. Others may observe differently. I usually will not use it with Berkely Power bait.
