Pre Spawn/Spawn smallies

I have always had the idea that smallies spawn after the largies and that they stage in current righ up until they do the deed. Has anyone found smallies in non-current pre spawn areas? Kind of a broad question but they seem to have a lot higher tolerance for current during the spawn.

Man Conner, you’ve been a busy beaver on the various chat boards looking for river info?? Brian put you up to it?? You would think your fishing a few tourney’s on the river this year. J/K man, I was giving Brown a hard time about all the chatter on another site. Good luck this year.

I found two smallies one time way back in back water lake on pool 13. I am talking close to a mile to any water you would think about looking for smallies in. It was right before the largmouth started to spawn.

Smallies on pool 8 use a lot of slack water areas for staging because we have a lot of deep water areas with no current and they can be dynomite early in the year dispite tramendous pressure. I caught a couple toads last year on a shallow gravel point in another area with no current, and was told that those fish were prespawn and they moved even further back to spawn, however I was pretty sure that those fish were spawning on the sand and gravel. I’m not sure that smallies spawn later on the river..hard to say, but I’ve caught largemouth and seen largemouth on beds as late as memorial day weekend and one of them was a female..I think a lot of smallies spawn sometime between April 25 and May 15 on a typical year, and that is prime time for the annual spring tournaments for someone to whack 22-24 lbs on 6 fish, all brown.

Ive never been one to follow guys, I just like taking their money! Hopefully I will have some insight to share after a few months on the river. You guys don’t chat a lot about patterns, are we nervous? Im just kidding, I just like to talk and figured maybe someone here wouldn’t mind listening
