This weather is doing crazy things with the water temps and the fishing. On Wednesday Oct 29, (the 1st decent day after the cold snap) I had 49 degrees at the foot of Lake Pepin and 44 degrees downstream. Pepin is a huge deep body of water that cools very slowly and is usually the warmest point on our stretch of the river.
Yesterday, I had 53 degrees in the backwaters and 51 in the main channel on pool 5. What a difference!
The problem is the warmth has the bass taking a siesta. The SM seem to be close to their wintering areas but the LM are still on summer stuff.
