I spent last week reading the posts about personal bests. Everybody said this is the time of the year to get yourself one.
In a previous life I was a ‘lake’ fisherman.
Since moving to western wisconsin my mission has been to learn the river. So I have a seperate category for personal bests-river.
Last week I said I would make sure to take a camera along. Well friday night my partner cancelled on me, so I left the camera at home.
First stop a 5-5 largemouth a new river PB. The fish hit a zara spook fished over a shallow weed flat adjacent to the main channel. The next few stops produced similar results with fish topping out around 3 lbs.
But as the fog burned off the larger fish disappeared.
last week I was unable to find any schools of fish, but with the water being 10 degrees cooler, I was able to find a couple of schools of smallmouths. These were smaller fish in the 13″ to 16″ size.
No matter how much I fished below the surface everything was caught on zara spooks or pop-r’s.
Moral of the story, listen to the guys on this board, they know what they are talking about.
