Okay I’m not kidding anybody here I don’t remember the last time I fished Bass this late in the fall….. I’m usually fishing for those walleye things. But 42-44.9 degrees on the depthfinder and Bev and Tom Clearman wanting to catch some Bass, so we planned to meet at Blackhawk about 11:30 as they were driving from CR, IA.
Although we planned on walleye for Saturday we gave BASS our best. We fished rocks and wood for ease and speed and although the numbers weren’t oustanding(about 20..some from 12:00 – 3:00) and some spots were downright dead… a couple of spots gave up fish pretty steady while were there.
This was pretty much a ride along for me,( I was already getting hit by the front end of the virus that kept me home SAT & SUN), and All I really brought was myself… we used mostly Shad Raps with CRAWFISH/shallow diver catching nearly all the fish. Both Tom and I left our Rattl TRAP type lures home, and so we could have used some of Taylor Tackles Rattle TRAPPIE Generics and some of their square billed generic cranks and I’m sure we would have grabbed more and bigger fish.
Regardless Tom and Bev past guide customers and now fishing buddies showed there versitility in some pretty strong winds and I’m still amazed how fast the retrieve needed to be to get a strike and in water in the low 40s…go figure. Had we had more time to work with we would have slowed down and used the tubes and worms.
