Pool 4 Sept.28 report

Spent the day on the lower end of pool 4. What a beautiful day. Started on the main channel fishing wing dams and bank protection. Rotating between a spinnerbait, a carolina-rigged creature and a Zara Spook. With the overcast conditions the Zara Spook soon took over full time duty.
For some reason this year the wing dams haven’t been as productive as in the past.
Bank protection areas have been pretty steady all year and today was no different. Mixed bag of smallies and largemouth up to 2-1/2 lbs.
Moved back just off the main channel. Quite a few fish running small minnows on weed flats. The weeds are perfect right now. The flats have opened up enough the fish can really roam and a zara spook worked across the flat is easily found. Although the larger 3+ bass seem to have to be stuck to a piece of wood.
Caught a couple of bonus walleyes on the spook. A 4 and 6 lber in less than a foot of water.
A couple of oddities. I’m struggling to find schools of shad this year and thus I’m not finding the larger schools of smallies.
Also, just before dark, I was finishing up on a flat with a couple of stumps. I had made probably 30 casts at these stumps from a couple of different angles using the spook, a pop-r and spinnerbait. I was just going to reach for the creature bait but stopped to watch a barge cruise by as the sun was setting. I noticed the current eddy around the stumps created by the barge. I picked up the spook, made one cast to the eddy and a 3-12 largemouth immediately inhaled the bait.
Hope I wasn’t too long winded. I promised this past summer when we had the debate about the lack of fishing reports that I would post in the future. And this is my first. Sorry no pictures. Next weekend I’ll borrow my daughters digital camera
Hope the warmer weather holds out a little longer. Good luck
