Well guys I am kind of excited. This year I decided I’d bite the bullet and send in my entry for a couple of the BASS events for the amateur side.

I was just notified I have been selected for the BASS Elite 50 event in Kentucky in June. I don’t get to fish in this one but I get to ride with one of the best of the 50 pros for 3 days. Then one of the fifty observers gets to take home a new boat at the end. I guess that is not too bad a deal for $300 bucks.

I also found out I am lucky 13 on the waiting list for the Missouri Citgo Bassmasters Tour Event on Table Rock in March. I have to hope that a few don’t get the entry paid or drop out. With 175 anglers selected I think this is possible. Here I would get to compete and should be a great experience.

I probably won’t pull the big check but I hope this is a great learning experience. Regardless of what happens I will definatly turn this into a writting opportunity and let you know how much fun it was.

Keep you fingers crossed that lucky 13 gets in.

    Ken,
While I am excited for you one phrase you put to paper has me irritated…
“I probably won’t pull the big check”
Ever read the story of The Little Engine That Could.
See it, feel it, be it. This is your tourney to win!

I know. That phrase bothered me too. I know I could win but I have never been on that lake. Might not be a problem because I don’t have to worry too much. The pro has to find the fish. I just have to catch them.

I guess what I was really trying to say was if I didn’t win I would still be happy I did it.

Thanks for stepping in with the pep talk Jeremy! I need all the help I can get being “positive”!

If you guys would like to reference an good, easy read over the slow season…………the book is “Attitude Is Everything” by Jeff Keller. Should be available at any retailer for less than $10.00. It’s a great look into the effects of what we think and say, even if done light heartedly.

Hey JC………..you ever play “Braveheart”, the soundtrack, while fishing a tourney? That’ll give you some intensity………………….as if you need any!

Congrats on your selection there Ken! Just having the guts to go for it says a lot for you!

Congrats Ken, Fishin with the big boys can be a great time.Luck of the draw has a lot to do with getting a check. You will find out these guys arent that much different than us “clubbers”,they just have more time to do it and get on fish. Up at Minnatonka in 96 I fished with Karl Maxfield who was a great guy to fish with( may he catch some big ones in that big lake in the sky). Roland Martin on the second day(Kind of a horses butt) and Randy Fite the last day( good guy but real quiet). Most of these guys dont have dont have real expensive equipment but they know what works. My advise would be to try some thing different than your pro ( unless he is really smokin em) and always have a carolina rig ready to go. If the fish are on the bank the pro wont leave many ,grab the ol C-rig and fish behind the boat . A gal I know won a Bassin GAls tourny doing just that and brought home a new Ranger( right Kelly Joe- lurker) Anyway it can be a great time getting to know a few of them and most will do all they can for you. But dont count on it! Good luck with the draw and dont give up! I had a limit the first day (7th place ) blanked with Roland and had 3 fish the last day and managed a check and a nice plauqe to remember it with. It aint over till its over, keep castin .
