I’ll start this post by saying, it’s funny how certain actions and conversations work out long after they’ve ended.

Dave “Mr. BFT” Koonce and I were exchanging PM’s earlier today about the Red Eye Shad lipless cranks. He’d asked what colors worked best, so I offered my two pennies worth and off to Cabelas my favorite Boss went.

Not too long thereafter I received another PM from Dave saying they didn’t have the 2 best colors I suggested. The one color was the hot Sexy Shad that’s been so popular. Thankfully, I’d been fortunate enough to find a couple and picked them up not too long ago.

Having one tied on tonight was probably one of the best choices I made when hitting the water for the Thursday night tourney. That crank was really, REALLY hot. 2 times, I made back-to-back casts, yielding very nice fish. But tonight wasn’t about me and my hot little crankbait. It was about me getting my posterior handed to me by my Dad and his favorite Zoom Brush Hogs. Yeah, those things work too.

The proofs in the pics. Somewhere among these 4 Bass is one that I bagged on a Sexy Shad crank. The rest of these fish fell victim to a Brush Hog.

Once again, it was a 3 fish tourney. We brought in 5, and chose the best 3. Throwing back 3lb’ers isn’t necessarily a bad thing. We ended in second place with 11.53lbs. We were bested by to great guys who had in their possession the ultimate trump card…..a 6lb’er.

Too bad they had one small fish, or their bag would have been fantastic(er)….. They weighed in 11.85lbs. for first place.

On a side note, I told my Dad, we’d have to bring our own bag next week. This is the second week in row we borrowed a bag to weigh our fish only to beat the guys we borrowed the from. Finding a bag next week is going to be tough….
