I went out for my maiden voyage tonight on Pool 7 looking for some Bass for the Thursday night tournament. It felt odd going out not really knowing where to go or really what to try. Typically, by this time of the year, I have a pretty good idea what to throw and where to throw it.
So my Dad and I took off at 5:30 with 11 other boats, hoping for the best.
Our first spot produced this very nice Largemouth Bass. She fell victim to a creature bait on a Carolina rig. Hearing the bite’s been REALLY good, we figured having 3 fish like that one would put us in contention, but probably not first place.
After working the spot over 2 more times and coming up empty, we headed for one of my favorite Smallie spots.
There, I boated these 2 Smallies, almost within minutes of each other. These 2 Smallies are the first 2 keepers I’ve put in the boat this season. Needless to say, I feel very fortunate.
We ended the night, catching only those 3 keepers. At the scales, they weighed out at 12.30lbs. Over a pound heavier than 2nd place.
The biggest of the 2 Smallies weighed 4.55lbs.
If you’re wondering how the bite is, now’s the time. I won’t be waiting so long to get back out there to try and catch more fish like this. I may not succeed, by I’ll surely have fun trying.
