I hit the water this morning around 9:30 to try and find some good fish again on pool 8. Right away i was happy to see a water temp in the upper 50’s and the air temperature was not unbarable. I ended up spending most of the day swimming jigs in shallow water for largemouth. Unlike the past couple of weeks, the bite was a little off for nicer fish. I still caught several keepers in the 2-3 lb range, but no 3-4 lb fish were finding their way to my boat with this pattern. After spending about 2 hours swimming that jig and only 4 average keepers to show for it, i decided it was time to leave. On my way out I dabbled a bit with a shakey head and the end result was a 20-1/2″ pig of a smallie. Turned out to be my biggest smallie to date. That fish absolutely pumped me up, let me tell you. On 8 lb test on the spinning rod with no net allowed in my boat, it was a bit nerve racking to say the least. I managed to get a picture from a woman on shore and got back to fishing. I ended the day with a solid 18″ fish and a couple more smallies. Overall it was a great day on the water. My best 5 were over 16 lbs. I can’t complain. Water temp is 57-62 depending on where you are at.
