Well with a tough bite going last weekend, and the desire to get on some good fish, Justin and I made a trip to the river this afternoon after school to see if we could finally put together a half way decent day, and maybe even develope a pattern. We ended up having a great day, developed a pattern, and shook out the cobwebs on the keeper end of the deal. Overall I was a little disappointed in myself, as a nice 3+ lber came unglued at the boat and a couple others that would have helped me did the same..But I still caught 20-25 fish in the 12-13″ range to keep me busy. An occasional 2 to 2-1/2 lber also made things fun. Justin, all though didn’t catch the quantity I had, was a vacuum in the back of the boat of all the nicer fish! He stuck a couple pretty darn nice fish including a nice 18″er that would push over 3-1/2 lbs for sure.
overall a very fun night. The key was presenting either a swim jig, plastic, or jig to wood and rock and making contact with the structure. The fish were fairly agressive, and I even had a fish jump out of the water at a craw papi hanging out of the water from a small tree branch.

The water temperature is coming along extremely nicely, and in the 55-58 degree range in most areas. Though in one back bay we found 66 degrees. The only fish back there was this 5+ lb channel cat caught on a swim jig in 1-1/2 feet of water!! yes, please take time to admire my oh so wonderful farmer’s tan

Pics of our bass, catfish, and Justin’s Sheephead to follow.
