I know there are a couple of regulars on this sight that fish up in the Chip area. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about fishing Lake Wissota? I will be going up there to fish a tourney and would appreciate any tips or tactics that anyone would be willing to share. I know that this lake has good numbers of LM and SM. Which do you feel is the easiest to pattern here?

    Thanks for any info .

I pick up a fair number of smallies as incidentals while I’m out hunting for waldos. Two spots that seem to produce more smallies than others are the big sand bar at the mouth of the yellow river (in the main lake, just south of the river mouth…3-5′ with sporadic weeds and rock that is surrounded by 20′ basin) and also up on the Chippewa river, upstream from the lake. Lots of rip rap, there are many many rocky places on shallow flats with quick access to the deep river channel. I pick these fish up while bottom bouncing with live bait. Enjoy.

Now that the weeds are dying, I would look for fish to
be on wood. Small fish will be on rip rap. The better
fish will be on wood, or docks. Senkos, Flukes, Tubes, and
Skirted grub’n’jigs, would all get a try until I found
one that stood out as a preference. If you get wind,
get on the windward bank, and throw a crawdad colored
crankbait, rip a spinnerbait, or swim and jig’n’grub
combo. There will be fish shallow, and deep, or
transitioning, depending on the weather, or time of day.
So if you mark deep wood, like cribs, or a sunken tree, be
sure to bang that skirted grub’n’jig off it, or shake a
    drop shot in it.
