well… I WASNT fishing for smallies.. but try telling THEM that!!!…… so working plastics in rocks, with current breaks and access to deeper water I caught 5 smallies 12-18 inches…. very sluggish fighters right now….. I have this feeling if I had been using large minnows (like chubs) I would have nailed even more bigger ones…. they were clearly feeding…. even though they were slow…..

too bad I could not find any decent walleyes… which is what I was looking for…… ah well….. nothing wrong with smallies… except for the fact I was looking for something to eat… and bass is on my never eat list…..(along with almost everything else!)…… I also feel I might have been more successful if the wind and not been SCREAMIN up river!! talk about interesting boat/bait control issues…… the wind was in the 20’s I bet….

How did they (smallies) take your bait? It seems this time of year, it resembles more of a light walleye bite than a summer time Bronzeback!!

At least you were on the water eh???

the smallies are on a real tear right now… I was out again saturday and every boat out fishing was being pestered by them… I stuck to fishing deeper and that seemed to slow them down… still caught a 16″ and a bunch of 12″ plus….and I saw some nice ones caught by others and they were fishing crappies!! I must be crazy to keep fishing walleyes…. I cant get anything over 15″ anyway…..
