Has anyone been on pool 10 lately. What is the water level?
Thanks for the info.
THE WIFE AND I FISHED A GUYS AND GALS THIS PAST WEEKEND AND THE WATER WAS LOW. I HAD FISHED THERE IN MID AUGUST AND THE WATER WAS AT LEAST A FOOT LOWER THAN AUGUST. IF IT HELPS ANY, WE HAD BAD LUCK IN THE MAIN CHANNEL ARES (SMALL FISH) BUT DID FIND SOME LARGIES IN PAD FIELDS. PM ME IF YOU WOULD LIKE SOME DETAILS. TONY
The pool is at about 6.7 and rising a little. The flow is up, two weeks ago I was out and it was non-existent. On Sunday I was in a small tournament and got second with four fish all caught on crankbaits in backsloughs with current. The slop bite didn’t happen except for the dogfish . I’ll bet that Ecnook’s riprap bass came off this pool. We fished some riprap Sunday without success.
Thanks for the info gentlemen. I’m headed up there Saturday and was really curious to see if the water was rising at all. My last two trips to Prairie Du Chien have yeilded the same little fish you speak of on the main channel. I might abandon that theory all together and try all back water current. If I can find any.
Good luck !! I fished from Frenchmans Landing down to the “S” Curve…All I caught on cranks were the smaller active fish…the larger fish came on plastics….I did catch a lot of small fish too but the larger fish came on plastics… And the river is on it’s way up….looks like it will hold steady around the upper 6’s thru this weekend…that is still LOW !!!
Is the water still very clear? I’ve pulled into some back water lately that looks like tap water. 3-4 ft of clean, clear water. Anyone else finding water like that on pool 10. Tough to fish though.
The main channel has some duck weed and razor grass coming down. Water clarity is about 1 foot looking at my jig coming straight out of the water I havent been in the back waters much at all but if there isn’t any flow back there you can bet that they are very clear…
We worked our way into Garnet(which wasn’t easy) and the water is really clear, but the eel grass is dieing and really slimey. Just before the bottom dropped out on the water level I had made it back there and hammered bass on swimming jigs. Sunday all I saw swimming there were perch, small bass and small gills. That’s where I caught the doggies . The running sloughs have about the same clarity as the main channel. I’m hoping I can get out Saturday afternoon and try some plastics. Thanks for the report Ecnook, soon you’ll give up walleye fishing if you’re not careful .
Are any of you guys fishing the Rudy tourney this weekend? If so, what is the take off time..I’ll be driving about 4hrs in the morning and can just fish that day? Thanks
Basspack… interesting points, thanks for sharing.
So, my question is this: Are the larger fish holding (traditionally speaking) in the clearer water? If so, don’t they move out when the vegitation begins to die off and the water temps hit the mid 60’s?
Curuous what your thoughts are?
I think, of course someone can always prove me wrong, that the bigger fish do and have moved out of the areas where the vegetation is dieing. This is especially true of the shallow water areas with little or no current The lack of oxygen content is too stressful on them. If you can find deeper water with vegetation right now, which is hard to do I would think there will be areas with larger fish still in it especially where the dieing weeds are not super thick. As the temperature continues to drop (or starts, they’re talking 80 degrees today) the fish will definitely begin to feed heavily as they move to wintering areas with deeper water. It looks like I will be able to get out on the water on sunday morning. With the water up a little I should be able to try a lot of different types of areas to pinpoint some bass.
I’ll be putting in at Marquette on Sunday. Good luck to everyone on the water this weekend. Stay safe.
