Curiousity…

Not a lot happening on the board as of late… wondering why? Possibilities…

    1. Are many beginning the annual packing away of there fishing gear to be replaced with bow hunting and duck hunting gear?

    2. Fishing is less than spectacular and nothing to report?

    3. People just view the board and have nothing to say?

    4. Scared to report anything due to the qualifiers and the big tourneys coming up?

Well, gang… fire it up!!!! The best fishing is yet to come… I can almost FEEL the REEL pulling now… 20, 22, 24″ smallies all stacked in a corner…

I’m packing away my gear, into the back of my Dakota and making a mad dash for Mille Lacs for the weekend. BIG smallmouth.

I gave up duck hunting way too many morons and [censored] jerks out there. I like to bow hunt but don’t have the time to devote to it.

The fishing on my end of pool 7 has been awesome. Lots of nice fish. But I’ve already posted that. If you stick a 24″ smallie you better take a pic of it!

Note to all: If you do catch a nice fish, don’t jam it into the camera lense trying to make it bigger. Put a bend in that elbow!

Decided not to bowhunt this year bacause of recent back surgery. Crushed disc has my right leg still feeling some pain and pretty much a useless calf on that side makes me think crawling in and out of trees is a bad idea.

Sure gonna miss it though. Almost had myself talked into it with the cool weather break this week, but came to my senses after a while. Nobody really knows if I’m bowhunting or not until October 1 comes and I’m not in a stand at sunrise.

I hear ya Blue Fleck. I take to SD for for one week at the end of Oct. to fullfill that fix. Funny thing, the ducks actually out number the duck hunters out there.

Speaking of duck hunters and sharing the river… Gibbs is a GREAT duck hunting area… and fishing… last couple years I have actually been TOO close for comfort… last year I had shot fall in the water about 20 ft from the boat… Whew!

What is the take on this? Equal rights? They have guns and we don’t? Who shoud have priority?

For example, there is a VERY famous hunting point with a blind on it every year and it has hunters in it ALL the time… GREAT bass point, too. The duck hunters get irritated with me sitting in front of the blind fishing… they say they have a limited season and I have had all summer… seems like we have equal right, though. They have dogs, I have a dog… Thoughts?

I’ve allways stayed out of the blind areas when duck hunting is on. I figure these guys do have a limited season and I do have all year.I do find some nice walleyes in the back waters and have been shocked when a duck hunter has yelled at me when I didn’t even see him…I go right by some blinds getting to my walleye spots…

They have guns. …And it’s never good to put yourself in a situation where something bad might happen. They might sweep their gun on a duck and not realize you’re in line of fire. You could be lipping a LMB and next thing you know, we’re reading about you in the paper. I’d say give them their space….My opinion–being a hunter and fisherman…Anyone been out so far this weekend?

I think I’ve figured out your problem.

I’ve been yelled at by several bushes in the last few years. Had I known they were there, I wouldn’t have run through if I could’ve avoided it. There’s plenty of places to fish where those guys can’t hunt. It’s an annoyance the way some of them (very few) get all self-righteous and complain about your being there at all, but I’d be willing to bet that 99% of them are decent people.

The most interesting one was at Coralville Resevoir. Just north of the 965 Bridge there was a guy, full camo, shotgun in hand, with two rods wedged in the rocks, lines in the water. Obviously this guy should expect other fishermen, but he was still unhappy to have a sparkly blue boat drifting by him.

I hunt ducks 20-25 days a year on pool 4 and I can count on my hands the number of times that I have been interrupted by fishermen. I rarely get crowded by other hunters either. I take the time to scout out my spots and pick out of the way places that are tough to get to and I usually have the place all to myself.
