Wow, it sure has been a while since I wrote one of these…Basically since August 7th my mind has shifted to my 2nd passion, and that is football. I have fully dedicated myself to the game and that has really inflicted on my fishing time..

The last 4 weeks I made it out a handfull of times, and sucked the bag..

I tried a little bit of wingdam fishing with low success, and a little bit of everything in the backwaters with no success. I felt that I needed to change my gameplan, and this weekend was going to be the time to do so.

Usually when I’m in a slump, it takes a few weeks to get things into a full blown slugfest again..little by little the weights get better from 10 lbs or so up to the mark where i like to be on average of about 12-13 lbs.

Today seemed like it was finally going to be the day where i got things done. The plan was to drive up the LAX river and catch some of the Oktoberfest parade before picking up Justin and heading back out..I couldn’t even resist driving by all those wingdams, so i was a little late to the parade. The result was a 17″ smallie and a 15″ largemouth.

Our time at the parade did not last long, and we were back on the water again. Things were pretty slow for quite a few dams, but we caught a fish or two on almost every dam we fished.

by about 4:30 i had 4 keepers on board, and Justin had one. we were wing damed out and thought that our outing was washed up, because all we had left was backwater junk..

We got in the backwaters and just started pitching t-rigged plastics and things sparked instantly.

Justin layed into 4 keepers within about 15 minutes, I stuck a 15″, 2lb 15 oz largemouth, and a 17″ 3lb 6 oz fish. This gives you an idea of how heavy the fish are right now..There are still some skinny guys running around, but when you find them fat..they are enormous. I still can’t get over a 3 lb 15″er!!

We caught our fish using an assortment of lures, from topwater, crankbaits, rat-l-traps, and shakeyheads on wingdams, to texas rigged plastics in 4-8 foot of water along submerged wood and vegetation.

My limit was about 13lbs 6 oz and Justin’s weighed in the 10 lb range. pretty good sacks for an afternoon and a 12 ft boat!

I agree, Cade, Wingdams are just too good to pass up…so, I jsut fished one after the other on Saturday as the wind would allow…

Here are the results… a 4 fish limit for our last Jerkin’ Lips Tourney this past Saturday weighing in at 13.5 Pounds with largest at 3.55. A great day! Topwater and plastics were king.

PM sent. The money has been sent multiple times but the address was not valid according to Justin, and he could not find a phone number in the yellow pages. Please reply to my PM and I can give you his number…so you can give him the address he needs to use to pay you the money.

Justin is a good person. trust me, he is not trying to screw you over.

Cade, I caught a 15 1/2 last friday on pool 9 and it weighed 3# 5 oz. I could not believe the girth on that fish. I wish I had a picture of it. JR
