to start with i fish mostly pool 8. this question is about smallmouths, big ones. where is the best spot to catch a big smallmouth right now. is it on the wing dams?. last night i went out and fished sand flats, sand points and wingdams. the only fish to brag about was a 20inch smallie that came off a wing dam using uzuri rattle trap. is that where the big smallies are holding right now with the low current or did i hit a fluke. also if wing dams are where the small mouths are holding what is the best presentation to use. i wonder how a weighted fluke would work. i did snag some shad last night running my rattle trap. i also through a smoke colored grub and had some sucess.

on another note. are big smallies easier to locate right now than big smallies? i caught a 3.5 last wed jigging logs on a deep bank and another 3 plus the night before throwing spinners in deep weeds where shad is present. i seem to be getting many small largies with big ones very isolated in them. what should i do. target largies or smallies. any suggestions would help

I would say yes, or no, depending on how you look at it!

Great Forum guys, Reel Guy got me going into this…only input I have for wingdams is that a buddy and I were catching plenty of LMB on wingdams this past sunday. Only 1 smallie was caught, looked to be of good size, but it was lost at boatside. (him not me ….)
