Thanks for the congrats guys. Congratulations to MN fish as well. You sure put the pressure on me and Jay.
Saturday was the easy day for us. First spot 40 minutes we had 21.03 lbs in the boat. We layed off our fish the rest of the day, and went looking for more new spots for Sunday that might have held some good fish.
Sunday the bite was completely different. Our first spot had 2 boats on it when we got there ( I don’t know the wisconsin channel so took the no wake zones ) We went to our spots that we had fish going but had not fished on Saturday. The bite was very poor. At 11:30 we only had 2 fish in the boat 1 good one and one small fish. We switched to cranking and pulled into a spot that had only produced one small keeper in practice, and got 4 in 15 minutes (let the pressure off a little bit). We continued cranking and caught our last fish with 1:40 left in the tourney.
Topwater said it all in his earlier post “Fish a perfect tourney and get a 2.5 lb average and you’ll be near the top.” That is exactly what happened. We never lost a fish. Sunday we only had 15 fish for 9 keepers. We never missed a bite. it is exactly what had to happen to win with great competition from MNFISH and the rest of the guys. Special thanks to “TOPWATER”. I fished a club tourney, and the 4 man classic with him within the last couple of weeks. He was throwing a crankbait that I had never thrown before, and did very well on it. I bought a few of them from bass pro. We were fixing to loose Sunday, when I switched to that crankbait and produced (3) 3+ lb’rs off 1 spot. ( I was paying attention Brian )
We finished with 40.56 lbs just .8 lbs ahead of MNfish. I’de like to note that every angler that got a check took at least $100 out of the prize envelope and gave it back to St Jude for the childrens hospital. Over $20,000 was raised to help kids with cancer. What a great cause, and a great bunch of anglers for a competition. Can’t wait till April to do it again.
MNfish, care for a re-match?
