    Guy’s

Congratulations to Champman (Jim Johnson) for winning the Wisconsin Federation Championship on Pool 4&5 over the weekend . I suspect there are some other FTR regulars that placed high but I didn’t get any other details. We’ll have to wait for the WI website for more information.

    Jim,
Great job on Pools 4 & 5. It looks like everybody caught a ton of fish so to come out on top again is quite an accomplishment. Any words of wisdom for us mere mortals!!

mere mortals?! com’n guys, we all know how to catch fish here on this site. The only thing that I like to pride myself on is finding where the fish want “to live” when they aren’t feeding. Case and point this weekend, they would come up and feed early in the morning for a short bit and go down. All a guy has to do is to start probing the areas where they were showing themselves and find a pathway to deep water were they can transition quickly to feed. In my experiences, bass want to follow something, like a ledge, to they’re feeding areas and use these same pathways to retreat. Where they stop to “live” is the majic. It may be just a twig on a bend in the ledge. I’ve found that it doesn’t take much to hold large quanities of bass as long as they aren’t pressured to come off those spots. We all love seeing and catching those busting fish, but i would say that 9/10 times they are the smaller fish out of the school. Drop back 20 yards and find something irregular about the structure that they’re feeding on. I didn’t say too much or to little here did I?

Champman-you last post is exactly what most of us using the web site is looking for. Someone to tell you not where the fish are, but how to look for them. From my opinion that is the best post I’ve seen in a long time here, not that others haven’t help. Seems there is alot of complaining or something lately other than good info. Even though I was pulling for some of my friends to do better I did have one make the team (Rick Hartwig), but anyhow, Congrads to you all. And hope you can post a few more tips like your last one…. Thank you

    Jim,
I didn’t mean to offend you with the mere mortals remark. It just seems that you have been very consistent in the last few years and I have to applaud your willingness to help the rest of us. Your post was very informative and enlightening.

Thanks for the insight and keep up the good work.

well, I can say that I’m not the only one who knows how to catch fish here, i’m just not afraid of letting people know what to look for, such as someothers. You still have to be able to figure out and catchem. I hope more people can post more “openly”!

Right on!!!! This dillusional paranoia know as Bass Fishing can really hurt the sport of fishing sometimes.

Good luck JJ if you fish in Tri-States tourney tonight. I’ll be home playing Mr. Mom while the wife is over in Ireland. It’s a 5 fish tourney tonight too.

I am one of those mere mortals who’s fishing skills are still in there infancy, (sometimes I down right suck ). Posts like this give us something more to think about. I have my share of spots but find those to be very hot and cold. I discovered that I need to try and work beyond the Hot Spot idea and into the anatomy of fish feeding and living areas. Thanks again for more info to chew on!

Jim… or anyone else that was there… was curious what the final weights were for the top three finishers? And, what the big fish for the tourney was? Just curious!
