My small bass club was supposed to have a tournament out of Pool 10 on the 31st and 1st. But because of really big problems at work only 4 people were able to go. So we decided that we would fish pool 9 the first day and pool 10 the secound.
Pool 9:
This was my first time ever fishing this pool so I was excited. My partner and I started out fast when I landed a 2.5 largemouth right next to the ramp we used. Two cast later I got another fish that was just short of 14″. We quickly hit anything that looked good trying to figure out something, but All we were finding was short fish and lots of Pike. Finally my partner tells me were he thinks we should go. He also told me it was okay to run this shoot and it was not I got about half way down and smoked a stump that was in about 2 foot of water and tore the skag half way off my motor I got lucky that was all the damage done to my boat. We left there and finally found an area like I was looking for. We quickly fill our 5 fish limit(I forgot we also picked up a 2.9 smallmouth before the motor isue). Then we found the mother load of fish, we pulled 10 fish over 3 pounds off one laydown one of them being a 3 pound smallie We also caught about 15 short fish. After that area we ate lunch and decided to look farther back into the area we were in. We found a pad line that also produced 8 more keepers in the 2.5 pound range. We also had two really nice bass swipe at our baits and never come back One of which look to be close to 5 pounds. We go back for our weigh in and to see how the other group did.
J.Staats/R.Schultz 5 fish 17-8
D.Staats/M.Staats 5 Fish 15-10
I was happy with 17-8 even though I had never fished that pool before All our fish came on a mix of swimjigs, tubes and spinnerbaits.
Day two pool 10
We again blasted off to thick fog. We pull into our first spot and don’t get anything. Then we pull up to spot number two and we get 4 keepers and about 10 short fish. My partner also caught a huge dog fish on a ribbit frog (I hate dog fish and it ended up in my boat ) We missed alot of fish on swimjigs in this spot, we don’t know if they were nice fish or short ones. The would just run up and slap it. WE even switched colors and they just did the same thing. We then run down river and pull up on our next spot only to find the other boat in our group already there. They were sitting off a sand point catching tons of fish on a popper. We moved down out of there way and I quickly get two short fish and so does my partner. Then I got the 5 fish in our limit and we moved off. The rest of the day we pulled short fish here and there and we also caught 3 more 15″ fish. We weighed in at 1:00 and we were almost late My partner wanted 5 more min to fish on tree and it almost cost us.
J.Staats/R.Schultz 5 fish 10-15
D.Staats/M.Staats 2 fish 4-9
All our fish today came on swimjigs and one on a tube.
All in All I had a great time, I whish I could have got a few more guys to be able to make this trip. I think it would have been even more fun.
