55 should be a prime spinner bait bite. I mean DEAD ON. I started to throw a jig, but all I had was a plastic trailer and no pork. With a total rookie in the boat, it would have been very hard to start flippin with him.. and I just wasn’t prepared to have to knuckle down that hard for a bite.

Normally I can get bit on those green plate sized lilly pads. could not get a bite on the ones that I fished.

I know that the Black river had cleaner water and shad action. I just had to go back to where I was fishing which was mid river and below.

I haven’t been out for two weeks. If I can get out a couple of times this week I would hope that I can get on these fish.

I am still shocked by the current flow. was not expecting that at all. and SHOULD HAVE LOOKED BEFORE PUTTING THE BOAT IN THE WATER.

how many pounds did it take to win the contest and did a ton of guys catch fish or was it tough for everyone else too?

    He’s my Uncle too.

Never sell those old Bass guys short. They always have a few tricks up their sleeves.

well that’s what i mean, when i call someone a river rat, I am giving them the highest respect on the river..River rats can be old or young, but regardless, they have a ton of knowledge and are someone to look out for.

I never thought you displayed any dis-respect. In case you were wondering.

well I fished about five solid hours today and was beaten by that stupid chatterbait. some one explain to me why these fish won’t eat a spinnerbait right now? But they won’t, at least the fish that we were on today.. We fished a large fairly shallow expanse off the main river today for largemouths. and its on the Minnesota side. and has a marina.

caught about 25 fish and that chatterbait caught probably 18 of them.. but like Cade mentioned, you could sort through 23 2lb bass before you found one that broke 14 inches. but all these basses were FAT, FAT, FAT and chunky.. sorta like me. but not as pregnant.. as I have been at 9 months for the past 20 years.

someone tell me what the spinnerbait problem is, cuz I threw five different colors and sizes. and blade combos..

my suggestion is to try the main channel and target a different colored fish My experience right now is sand and rock in wide areas of the river where the current isn’t blasting it as much

The smallies are going good still..The bite seemed a little slower today on the channel, but with the full moon and rainy conditions tomorrow, they should be just snapping. I can’t wait. Don’t you love 4 day weekends??

this first fish was a sow, 19-3/4″ long, though the picture does it no justice. Would you believe me if I told you it inhaled a big swimbait?

Well I fished Pool 8 again today.. If I didn’t have one lure, I would be catching NOTHING AT ALL. I found stacked fish today. The fish had dropped deeper onto a wall. BUT someone tell me, besides a plastic worm, what else will these fish hit? I had a captive audience for fish. stacked like cordwood. So now was the time to find out, What will you eat? No to a spinnerbait. absolutely not. my feel with a jig and pig is not what it should be, but I threw one on two passes. First a 5/16 oz and then a 7/16 oz NO BITES. ZERO. Put a crankbait on.. One fish. ONE TOTAL. ONE. O N E one. but to check I would fish that special worm for one or two casts and FiSH ON.

all largemouths and all weed fish by color. Pretty, Pretty fish.

Its the year end. SOme one tell me something.

I’m with you… I jumped out for my last outing Saturday afternoon with my family (Cade – saw you and waved man…I don’t think you saw me…Red/White Ranger).

I went to areas I knew fish would be present, and like you Old Rat, same thing for me… same pattern as last weekend… nothing on cranks, nothing on spinners, nothing on jerkbaits… all on soft plastics, specifically long ones (try a Senko if you get out again!)

And, Cade, like your post above, I caught plenty, just nothing ovr 13.5″! But, hey, with a 3 and 5 year old in the boat, they were HUGE!

I waved too RG..I thought you were looking at me but we must have just waved at each other at the wrong times

I was surprised this weekend, I caught a few pretty nice ones still on a spinnerbait…However i’ve been fishing it really slow..

The drop shot produced this nice one yesterday, but it was my only keeper of the day

Cade, is your boat white or blue? and if you have a merc, is that white or black? Because I thought I saw you Saturday but the colors didn’t add up in my head. and I have previously mentioned that I have a Blue flake on Blue bass boat powered by those fine people from the far east. The ones that look like an Evenrude but have a Japanese sounding name..

Looks like someone figured out how to get underneath the small ones to find the bigger fish! Nice!

My boat goes to storage today… this is a day every year you may see a grown man cry…

Old Rat- My boat is white and blue, with a black late 70’s 9.8 mercury. Although blue and white aren’t the most common colors for an old V bottom, most people commonly recognize my boat as “the one with the super oversized trolling motor”

RG- that is very sad I hope I can milk out another 2-1/2 weeks yet.
