Water temps more suitable for hot trout action and shallows filled with minnows kept the weekend smallmouth action down, at least for larger fish. I did manage fish, but no piggies!! ( PLease refer to reports page) I’m feeling lazy, sorry.

I would say by next weekend, that if you like fishing for smallmouth, head to the Root River in SE MN for some slammin’ smallmouth action. If you have any questions about where to begin, what to use etc, please let us know! I’ll be glad to help in any way I can! For those of you who fish SE MN smallmouth or smaller river smallmouth hop on and lshare some info!!!! I would really enjoy hearing about your day(s) on the water!!! There is more to learning than just from personal experiences!!

Trout season(until Winter opener) is officially done! Heard reports coming in, some people felt the need to keep fish after the catch and release began, two weeks ago!! Nooo Goood!

    Keep the rods bendin’!!!

I’ll be spending a great deal of time right on some excellent smallmouth waters this weekend…. bowhunting.

I may jump down out of the stand to run for some lunch and make a few casts tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Also, you could throw a few casts out there between drag points……………..you know, when you’re dragging your 275lb. (dressed) 12pt. Pope and Young Lunker that scores 195 typical points!!! Good luck out there and hope you get a chance to succeed with both!!

We’re still out here, but come on it’s fall, it’s prime time. It’s going to friggin snow soon… After a 12 hour day on the water I’m lucky if I get to read, much less comment. With K-fan coming up, and a nasty cold front to contend with, A guy has to pay his dues. HEY! MNfish…The pepin smallies….they’re in the water….hopefully the best place to find them next week…will be in my livewell…See you on the water…Enjoy the short time we have left.

Boy are you right about dragging a deer out. Both fields around the woods I hunt are corn this year, and until that gets picked, the closest I can get the truck is about 1/4 mile.

Yesterday morning, I would’ve been much better off fishing. Maybe I’ll take the hint next weekend and fish from noon-3 and then jump in my stand at sunset.

No, Jedsall. I’ll see you at the KFAN. Gots lots of big fish today. Had to get wet to get at them but I got there. Good luck to all in the tourney!

Jim, I hate to say this, but I just haven’t had a lot time to get on the Root. I am waiting for end of Oct. first of Nov. That’s is when I catch most of my bigger fish. Just a small jig tipped with twister or small piece of plastic worm. I’d like to take you to one of “my” spots. Somewhere between Chatfield and Lanesboro. If you’ve floated the river you’ve been through it. Caught some nice smallies below Lake Pepin yesturday pitching jigs into rip-rap. Lotta fun! No walleyes though!!!!! JLK

I’ve probably fished that spot a few times. The bigger branches of the Root( that sounds funny) can produce some outstanding fall fishing. I haven’t really tried your technique per-say, but I’m willing to try any technique once!!

Most of the Root river smallmouth will begin staging! LArger slower holes lined with some kind of structure or hide outs, seem to be a preference of Late fall smallies. Look for large rocks in these holes and your in like flinn!!

E-mail me jeff and I’d be glad to work out something with ya!!!
