We had a little better showing for our 3rd tournament today. We ended up with 5 boats and blasted off out of Millers landing.

My partner and I drew #5 and we headed all the way down river. We started our day in Bulgers??. I started out with a buzzbait and with no fish after 20 min I switched to a junebug swimjig and quickly picked up a 15″ bass. We worked the area really good for about 2 hours during that time I landed another 15″ and a 14″ liner. Very last cast I land a fish that just does not nick the line on my bumb board. So off we go with 3 fish, I pull into spot number 2 and I find so much muck I have to push poll my way around in 2 feet of water Just when we get to were I want to start fishing I droped my push poll in the water And it sank right to the bottom. So my partner and I get in the water to find it. After 5 min of feeling around we found it 10 feet away from were it went in No fish in that spot.

Onto spot 3 and I start pitching a jig and right away get a hit and I set the hook. A nice bass 4 lbs?? or really close come shooting to the boat. As my partner is messing around trying to get it, it came onhooked I keep working the bank with a combo of jigs and swimjigs and picked up a lot of almost keepers. My partner caught 4 shorts including a 12″ smallie. We move to our last spot and right away my partner hooked a nice bass on a frog. It was about 20 yards into the slop and he gets it all the way out and the fish comes off about 3 feet short of the boat. The bass had the whole frog in its mouth and when it turned its head it just popped out. I caught another almost keeper and two short more shorts. So we headed back to waste 20min by the boat ramp. We had one blow on a frog and watched another team catch a 3lb fish almost on the ramp. Right before the weigh in I check my liner and I could no longer get it to make 14″ it was less then a hair away but not a keeper so back it went.

    Weigh in results

    M. Staats/B. Sanders 5 fish 12-11
    R. Schultz/H. Schultz 4 fish 7-5.5
    D. Staats/J. Werlin 2 fish 5-8
    E. Dietrich 2 fish 5-8
    J. Staats/R. Pollick 2 fish 4-8

It was a ruff day for all the teams to find a limit of 5. The team that won caught 3 fish in the last two hours, and they had two 4 pounders in the first 10 min.

When I got home and cleaned out my livewell I had 8 dead tadpolls in it.
