Well I am back from my two day trip and just like all fishing trips it was too short. We left Illinois later then I wanted to on Tuesday and did not get to Prairie until 10:30 am. We could not check into my cabin until 1:00, so we eat lunch and headed to Cabela’s. We messed around in there and picked up a few things and headed to our cabin.

The camp ground had a lake so we ended up fishing that for awhile. I caught two small bass on a black and red swimjig.

Finally we were off to the river it was really windy and blowing right out of the south so I was trying to find places out of the wind. I ended up using a small boat ramp near the town of Clayton. We fished what we could because of the wind and we finally found a pocket of smaller fish. My wife caught the first one on a spinnerbait. Then I picked up 3 others on a swimjig. We fished the area with the trolling motor on 4 just so I could move I really need to get rid of that 43lb thrust motor. At about 5:30 we decided to head back to the cabin to fish and get cleaned up before we went to eat. We ended up catching 8 more fish but they were all under 14″. My wife did catch her first fish on a buzzbiat

This morning we had trouble getting up I think we had a few to many while sitting around the fire . We put in next to the casino boat and headed to a spot just off the east chanel. First cast I hook a fish on a buzzbait. It turned out to be a Northern 10 cast later I caught a small bass on a buzzbait, soon after my wife had 3 blows but missed all of them. I switched over to a spinnerbait and caught another small bass and two more northerns. I switch to the other side and I landed a 14″ on a spinnerbait and then lost a nice bass on a swimjig. It was the biggest fish of the trip (not to hard to do though). We did not get anymore hits so we whent back to the other side and I lost a swimjig to another northern . After that I got two more small bass on a spinnerbait, then we pulled out for another spot. I quickly picked up another 14″ bass then a small bass and another small northern. Nothing else in that spot so I fished one last area before we had to hit the road. With in the first ten min I had a hit and I set the hook and sent a 10″ catfish flying. Very next cast I caught another small northern. That put an end to the trip.

I had trouble finding the bigger fish but I did have fun and I caught alot of fish. I also caught more Northern today then I have ever caught in one day.

    Pictures to follow,

I caught a 3 pound channel cat the other day in 2 fow on a spinnerbait on 10…whats going on??!! Sounds like you did alright. The northern are jumping all over the hook here lately, its kind of annoying. Good job getting on fish, even though the wind has been howling lately.

I forgot to tell you guys that I only fished from 3:00-5:30 the first day and from 9:30-12:30 the secound day. I also caught some really small bass that I did not even talk about. I think I picked up 5 bass the secound day under 10″.

We also stoped at Valley’s smoked fish. I picked up his video to try and learn a few things. I can smoke up some amazing ribs (I have won 4 contest) and I have a few guys at work talking about smoked Northern and how good it is. So I might have a clue on what I am doing now when I try it.
